No it's not, every woman goes through it, so she will understand. Don't forget your Mum can be your best friend, so just tell her, she will be so happy that you are growing up and she will help you get over it, pain etc.

my mum used to joke that shes waiting for the scream from the bathroom, so when i started (christmas eve a few years back!) i just screamed "MUM IM SHOUTING FROM THE BATHROOM!!!", took her a minute to cotton on but she came running with a box she'd been keeping of towels and things and passed it through the door, then explained a few things like tampons when the lads had gone out! lol
shell undersand, she was there once!

Yeah just tell her. When I first got my period we were in HEB and I went to the bathroom. I realized that there was blood in my underwear, so I went and found my mum and told her that I think it's time to start getting pads. When she asked why I told her that I started my period. When we got home that night she really embarressed me by writing on the calander that I finally became a woman! It was horrible.

just tell her
the female menstrual cycle is the sign that you are capable of having children as your body is now releasing mature eggs
your mum will understand after all she will have started hers when she was younger she will be happy for you becuase her little girl is becoming a woman
it is embarrasing as the mentrual fluid is most blood and is a little gross but all females have to go through this which is something guys never experience first hand
if you are starting your periods you need sanitary towels or tampons you can buy these yourselves but make it special by letting your mum buy your first set
my twin sister told me before our mum but i siad to her to tell her straight away and our mum was fine and even let my sister borrow some of hers at first until they went to get some
it really isn't as bad as it first seems

I would be up front and just start asking her questions about it and then if she asks you if you started tell her you think so but would like some advice on what is going on. This is how I did it with my mom and she was especially nice because i came to her for questions.

It shouldn't have to be embarassing, theres nothing to be embarassed about. It's natural and happens to every female. Just tell her straight and im sure she'll talk to you about it. I got home one day and just cried on the toilet because i thought i was dying haha, but hey!!

I know, I was so embarrassed!
'Mum... I need to talk to you, I've started my period' - that should do the trick! She won't be judging you or anything! You're both women.
:) Good luck, just don't worry.
