It's really unhealthy to completely STOP your period but there are ways to lesson it. I know my friends are always telling me that they dont take the last week of pills in their birth control every month because they are just sugar pills and cause you to have your period, and i guess that works for them. But i would just rough out the week of pain rather than having health risks later on. Try midol, it works for me.

Extreme weight training or some kind of physical training like distance running. It has to be like preparing for the olympics kind of training. I've been told it increases a certain type of hormone which turns your menstual cycle off.

If your symptoms are very severe such as heavy bleed and excessive cramps and lower back pain, then I suggest you talk to your doctor about medication that can control the symptoms. You can skip you periods if you are overly active in a sport, or if you do not way enough. If you skip your period too many times it is not healthy for you. There are surgeries that can stop you periods, but that wouldn't allow you to have children.

I have an IUD--intrauterine device--it's a form of birth control. I have had it for 2 1/2 years and have not had any problems at all. The absolute BEST side effect of me having an IUD is that my periods have gone from what's considered "normal" (as far as # days and heaviness of flow) to literally no period at all. Go to any store that carries feminine products and look at how thick a Kotex Lightdays liner is. They come in small green or blue boxes, usually with flowers on the box. It is an extremely paper-thin liner, but it is more than enough for me on my heaviest day. One of those liners could easily last me all day.

There is a birth control pill called seasonale that only allows your body to have 4 periods a year. It also helps with cramps a lot!! The only technical way to not every have your period is to have a hysterectomy or become pregnane or go through menopause. I wouldn't suggest either.

You'll always get cramps, all of us women hate it to. I go through the same things. The pill helps with the cramps so much, trust me try Yasmin, it was a good birth control pill and I didn't experience any side effects.

not without ruining your chances of having a baby. that pill that have has some serious possible side effects like stroke, heart- attack, and blood clots. scary stuff! then there's always having your uterus takin out when your old, but not to be gross, but that ruins your umm... drive. and you still won't be able to have a baby.
so you'll just have to drug yourself up with pamprin like the rest of us. lol.

I've heard that if you lose weight (ie, become anorexic) your period stops, because you can't really have little babies when your malnourished. don't know if this is the best way to go though.
Its either that, or get pregnant. that's the natural way, I guess.

You can ask your doctor about seasonale. It is taken about three or four times a year. You only have three or four periods a year. But consult your doc first.

Depo Provera, it's a shot that lasts for 3 mos, is a form of birth control that can either stop your period all together (if you get it the 1st day of your period), or make you get it anyway. It's kind of a hit or miss w/ that. Other than that, I don't know what to tell you. W/ Depo, if you don't get your period, you dont' get cramps either, if you do get your period, you will get cramps, but they won't be as bad as usual.

There are pills out now that make it possible for you to have only 4 periods a year. Ask your OB/GYN about them as you'll need a prescription.

There is a pill that was just released that eliminates your period, or you can reduce them. For me, going on the once a month pill really helped my craps. Talk to a gyno, they can help you more than anything. the Depo shot eliminates them as well. Good Luck, it sucks being a girl sometimes.

You could talk to your OB/GYN about certain birth control pills on the market today that can eliminate your period all together. However, I question how healthy that is.
I don't like my period either, no women looks forward to their visit from aunt flo each month. It is quite a nuisance. But I look at my beautiful baby girl and feel blessed that my body was able to make the wonderful little creature and paying the price of a period every month is nothing compared to having her in my life.
Someday you will see that. Take care.

GeorgePeter's answer is a little rude, but ironically, there are some truths to what he's saying. If you're deprived nutritionally, it may cause you to skip periods because of iron deficiency. I'm anemic and my period comes every other month. It's not that great, I don't hassle with my period as often, but I'm always too tired to do anything and I'm always cold. It's not worth it.
Take Midol during or around your period dates. It'll stop/lessen your cramps and other period problems. You can get it over the counter anywhere, even gas stations.

The first thing you need to do is find out why your cramps are so bad so go see a doc. The doc will help you figure out the best thing to do for your periods.

Well I think that you should start by trying over the counter pain relievers such as Midol or Pamprin. Try the heat patches too they help give you much milder pain!
Sounds like your still in school(Under 18) talk to your mom or your doctor. If your considering the pill yes your period will be less noticeable and cramps are way easier if you have any at all!
I had this exact same thing when I was in my teens and they did decide to put me on the pill even though I was not sexually active! There are tons of different pills out there your Dr. will decide which is right for you.
They also have prescription's that help with cramps. But try the over the counter stuff first! Good luck!

People often find that their cramps are a lot less nasty when they are on the pill - it shortens and lightens the period for many women.
If you take the pill designed to give you less periods, (only 4 per year) then you won't have cramps unless it is the time for you period. There is also a pill available called Lybril that means you don't have periods at all. You should discuss it with your doctor.

Get a birth control that has continous "active" pills so you never or rarely get your period. I use this one called seasonique with 3 full months of active pills and my life has greatly improved!

There are several forms of birth control that can make you only have 4 periods a year. Go to a gynecologist, make sure that the cramps etc. are not a sign of a more serious problem and get on the right birth control for you. You will be happy you did! Good luck!!!

Yep, try out the pill. seasonale, I believe, gives you a period only 4 times a year, so that may be an option, or just take them every month and you won't worry about a period until you stop taking them. Keep in mind though, if you take them for extended periods of time, it can cause period problems later on. Such as it won't start for months after you stop taking the pill.

The pill will lighten things up, help with the cramps and regulate exactly when you get it. That is the only way I am aware of. It won't make the discomfort or inconvenience go away completely, but it will help.
It's part of life.
