Drinking tea, or anything else for that matter, is not going to make your period shorter. I know having your period sucks, I'm 23 and I've had it for 11 years now so I know. You're periods may not be very regular right now because you have just recently started them so the amount of days between them and the number of days you are on you period may vary for a few years but it should eventually become pretty regular. Unless you have unusually long periods (over ten days) then I really wouldn't worry about it. If they are longer than ten days then you need to ask your doctor about it. The only way to alter the length of your periods is to get your doctor to prescribe a birth control pill for you. They can also help if you have really bad cramps. But at this point I doubt that you really need to be on any medication and you already said you don't want to take any pills. It will take you a while to get used to having your period but after a while it just becomes a part of life. Don't worry. Everyone, well females that is, has to deal with it just like you do.

Well, you are only 12, so your cycles are just beginning. Yes, they are miserable. It takes a couple years for your body to truly regulate itself. I have not heard about the hot tea thing, but it doesn't sound like it's working for you. Hot tea is designed to relax the muscles, thereby easing the cramps. I have heard that moderate exercise helps alleviate cycles. Nothing strenuous, more like a 30 minute walk, or swimming. Each girl is different.
For me, nothing helped. But then I was diagnosed with endometriosis when I was 17, and had to be put on hormone therapy. I have been taking hormones for 17 years, and it's the only way I make it through my cycles. Downside for me is that I'm unable to have children, and am already showing signs of early menopause (I'm 34). But that is how the Lord made me, and I'm content with it.
Best of luck, dearie. Make sure you talk to your mom and see if you can get to a gynocologist if the cycles get worse for you.

Sorry you can't stop your periods unless you go onto the pill or prolong it by not having enough iron in your body but that could lead to an iron defientcy.
Everyone hates periods, but you will learn to cope with them.
Hope that helps

Everyone's body is different and different things will effect yoru period, including the length of it - stress, new medications, illness, etc.
The only sure way to make your periods shorter is to see your Dr and get medication. Otherwise, you have to accept your cycle.

sorry, honey...that's our "burden"
your friend may have meant to drink hot tea to ease cramping(?)
the only way you can "stop" your period is with birthcontrol (i.e. depoprevera)...but i don't recommend that--that's A LOT of hormone.

Sorry to tell you this but there isn't a way to make your period shorter. Unfortunally, you just have to live with it and celebrate when it's finally over. And if it's been a week, it's probably going to go away pretty soon because they don't last that long. Just think of it as becoming a young woman.

Sweetheart, your friend was wrong. Different women are different, but most women's blood loss lasts between 3- 5 days. Anything more than that (spotting doesn't count, I'm talking about bleeding here), you need to see your OBGYN. He or she will explain to you ways to alleviate your cramps, and make sure that the fact that you're bleeding for a full week doesn't mean anything is wrong.
I recommend highly that you visit your doctor, just to explain the situation. You don't have to go on the pill - I'm 29 and I've never been on it - but it is important for you to monitor your cycles and be aware of what's happening to your body.
I wish you luck. And I also wish you more educated friends.

you cant stop them... it is a fact of life....the only way to stop it is to get pregnant ***** DO NOT DO THIS***** or to have your female organs taken out.... if you want to lighten them and know when they come go on the pill... they suck but you are just going to have to deal with it.

drinking tea will not make your periods shorter. Sorry but the only way to shorten your periods would be to take a birth control pills. Which you said no pills but a hormone (birth control) would be the only thing you could ingest to control your period.
anyways. you're 12 and you just started having a period. It takes awhile for your period to get regulated.

Nope no such thing. You can see a doctor and they might have some help. If you are on birth control pills it normally helps make them very light and shorter.
I hate them too!

To tell you the truth, I don't think there is any way to make it shorter. It all depends on your weight actually, I have learned. The thinner you are, the longer they last. For your first few months, it will be crazy take it form me. You may not even get it for months at a time. So don't panic, you will get a uaual 3-5 day period once you have had it for at least 6 months.
