Can women get immune to birth control after a while?
...

No. Birth control (I assume you mean the pill) tricks the body into thinking that it is pregnant, thus stopping ovulation. This is the same thing a woman experiences when she actually IS pregnant. you cannot become immune to birth control. |

I hate to scare you but "Yes" they can and my 3 year old daughter is living proof of it. I never missed a pill and I don't drink. I was on the pill for & years and I got pregnant with her while being on the pill. I have two other children that were conceived through the pill as well. Hope this doesn't scare you. |

i dont think so, but it isnt 100% so if you dont want a baby you should still use a condom. |

Well, sensibly, no. Birth Control is unnatural to the body, so the only way the body would become immune to birth control, would be if the body just decided to stop pushing the eggs. And we know that doesn't happen. I guess immunity to birth control would be choosing to not use it at all. |

I assume you mean the birth control pill...NO, women would not become immune to birth control. If one takes the pill everyday at about the same time, the likelihood of her becoming pregnant is less than one percent. |

Absolutely no,as long as you continue your method of birth control you will not got pregnant. But for your safety and advice talk to your doctor which method your body prefer. |

no...sometimes your body may not respond the way you so desired...but immunity is not possible. Change your method if one method no longer suites your lifestyle. I happen to love the patch... http://www.orthoevra.com/ |

No they can not. |

No! What happens is that the longer they are on birth control (example on the injection), the longer it takes for their body to clean, detox themselves. If on the pill the Ob-Gyn said it takes a minimum of three months but ideally 6 months for the body to detox. |

The hormones provided in the birth control pills are not like the antibotics you receive and develop and immunity to. The hormones are regulated, and are a very effective way of controling unwanted rug rats. If you are still unsure talk with your doctor and read the information, provided in the packs. |

Don't depend on some birth control medicines IF you are on antibiotics. I have a grand daughter because the antibiotics killed the "pill". Good luck. Pops. |

No. I took them for almost 20 years (until hysterectomy). No problems. If I could have become immune to them think it would have happened to me before 20 years had passed! |

Doctors prescribe the weakest BC they can in order to cut down on side effects. Do you suspect it isn't working? Take your suspicions to your doctor and discuss your concerns. |

I don't think so, but sometimes people can get pregnant on the birth control pill. Some people have a hard time getting any pill to work for them. I have some girlfriends who say they don't work for them. I personally cannot take them as my schedule is all over the map. They don't work well unless you take them the same time of day everyday. Hope that helps. |

No- The birth controll pill has been used for many years, its not a medication that you become used to or immune to like certain antibiotics. The body is put into what is called a fake state of pregnancy will taking the pill. That is why you must take it the same day everyday. |

No, but many ob-gyn drs will tell you to try a different form. If you have concerns, I suggest you talk to your dr. |

No you cant get immune to BC pills. BC pills are designed to regulate the hormones, which cause ovulation. On the pill you do not ovulate. Once you stop the pill after the 3 weeks, you begin your menses cycle. Immunity is a built up resistance to a particular medication. You can become immune to antibiotics, but your body is not able to build an immunity to hormones. |

there is no medical "immunity" to pills. but your question is about birth control, and this has a very wide scope, including natural family planning, calendar method, tubal (fallopian tube) ligation, condoms, etc. and although strictly speaking, there is no immunity, these methods of birth control each have their own failure rates. if your method of birth control fails and you conceive a child, this is not due to immunity but to other factors (depending on which method you are using) that may lead to method failure. :) |
