Just because a woman has lost her hymen, does not mean she is de-virginized. It's very common for little girls to be very curious with their body, enough so for a stray finger or something to tear the hymen wall-no penile insertion needed. I'd say its a fair assumption to say a gynecologist won't be able to tell by a torn hymen alone.

most times yes. they can tell if the hymen has been torn or ruptured.
but a torn/ruptured hymen can be caused in many different ways, such as sports.
but a gyno with experience could probably tell the difference

yes, they cannot always tell what broke your hymen---being active in sports, riding horses, many things rupture a hymen besides sex

No, not necessarily. And here's what I mean by saying that. A girl's hymen (the thin layer of skin that covers over the vaginal opening with the exception of the small hole to allow the menstrual blood to come out) can break because of a fall, some girls and women were never born with a hymen.
As for the issue with your mom, just tell her that you are concerned about your periods and the same with the doctor.
The doctor will assess the situation to see what's going on and then go from there to figure out what is going on to see how best to help you.

Not really. I know women who've had their hymens broken by horseback riding and other things so even if your hymen isn't intact, the person may in fact still be a virgin.
Your gynecologist should be aware by what the patient SAYS whether or not she is a virgin. That's important information for the doctor to know.

Kind of. It depends on your definition of virgin, which there's the biological definition and social one. Pretty much everyone goes by the social definition which is "not.. having..sexual...relations...with...anot... person."
Biologically there's a small membrane called the hymen which in "pop" culture is called the "cherry." I'm sure you've heard of it before. That structure can be broken during a first sexual encounter where the vagina is penetrated. But the hymen can be "popped" a number of other ways without actually having sex with anybody. So no, the gynecologist can't tell if you're a virgin, but he can get a pretty good idea if you've ever used a tampon, masturbated, or fallen on something you shouldn't have.

They can tell if your hymen has been broken, but they are not going to assume it's because your not a virgin. First of all, not all virgins still have their hymen. If you are really athletic you may not even have yours anymore.

No. He can see if the hymen is present, which would pretty much prove that you are. But hymens are not tamper seals, and not having one doesn't prove anything. If you have been pregnant, the changes would be visible on the cervix, which of course would rather prove you were not. But to be honest with you, the gynecologist doesn't really care one way or the other if you are a virgin or not. The only time it is an issue is how it impacts on doing a proper internal exam. If you have an intact hymen, doing an internal exam is nearly impossible without breaking it and is very uncomfortable for the lady in question. But they won't announce anything to anyone, if that's your concern. They will discuss things with only you, not with your parents, your boyfriend, your friends, or anyone else. I've heard in some countries, they do provide "certificates of virginity", but to be honest with you- the exam can really only tell if there is a hymen, or if you have had children.

I dont believe from a normal exam, but their are tests they can do to find out if you are a virgin.
If you are or aren't, you should be open and truthful with your doctor. If you are underage you have the right to have all of your information protected, even from your parents.

If the hymen is broken is a good indication but not definitive. The hymen, a membrane covering the external opening of the vagina, is usually present in girls or women until something--like penetrative sex or masturbation--has ruptured it. During a gynecological exam, a doctor would be able to see whether or not a girl has a hymen. But lack of a hymen alone does not necessarily indicate that intercourse has occurred. Some girls and women rupture their hymens during jostling sports like horseback riding, for example. Are you worried that the doctor will say something to your mom?

she'll know if you dont have a hymen. But that could happen from using a tampon or sports. So not really. But you shouldn't lie to your gynocologist. They are required to keep everything confidential, and she can only help you if you tell the truth.

They can't tell if you are a virgin or not. It used to be that a gyno could tell by checking to see if a girls hymen was still intact or if it was torn. However, now we know that a girl can tear her hymen playing sports, or inserting a tampon. Therefore, the gyno can 100% tell if your hymen has been torn or not, but they can not decide whether it was torn through sex or sports/tampon insertion.
Hope this helps. :-)
