Some have bad cramping or bad acne and the "chemicals" in some birth control curb acne and painful periods. Now if she's out bangin' already... slap her mom and/or dad. The girl might need it for regulating long, heavy or painful periods (lots of girls do), and if that's the case there's no question that it's a good thing. If it's been prescribed to prevent pregnancy, there's a very good reason for it: she's had/having sex (nevermind if that's a good or bad thing for an 11 year old! It's serious and it's real) and she's way too young to be bearing children. Either way, it's up to her parents, her doctor, and her. jessi	i think she's on it to regulate her period. birth control does not only stop one from getting pregnant, it regulates a woman's cycle as well. i know this for a fact because my doctor put my on it when i was 14 to regulate mine. my periods were so irregular and painful, and the BC really helped. they are regular now. thats probably what's going on with your cousin. just because she's on it doesn't mean she's having sex, she's probably having period problems. ejhamilton85	Birth control can help with acne and put you on a regular period which is great. From that standpoint, it's not a bad thing. Also, we gotta consider, if she were to get raped, God forbid, it would prevent a pregnancy. Just because they are on the pill doesn't mean they are having sex. Sometimes girls need it to stabilize chemicals in their body or mood. You should not make any judgment without the facts about the situation. You should do some research if you are skeptical. Erin	It's tough to grasp, but there are many reasons other than being sexually active to be on birth control. Girl's are starting to get their periods as early as age 9 nowadays, and if she was an early starter, than she could be experiencing difficulty with it. Menstrual cramps and other pms symptoms are alleviated with the added hormones, not to mention how irregular periods can be to start with. Come on now girls....don't you remember how embarassing it was to unexpectedly get your period when you first started??? Either way, I think it is proactive parenting. At least they are involved. ♥ Nichole ♥	Different strokes for different folks. I got on birth control when I was 11, mainly because of my period. It helped my cramps and my blood. My cramps used to be so bad that I stayed in bed crying all day. I am 16 now and I am still on it. shiggity777	birth control isnt just for people having sex. its alos used alot for younger girls who have very bad periods or arnt getting there periods at all to try to get there body to start it. and also if your periods are very irregular takeing the pill helps them know for a fact when its going to start. so i think its fine shes on it. John Jones, the Florida Gyn	There are reasons other than pregnancy protection for being on contraceptives. Extreme acne would be one, although 11 seems a little young for that problem. My guess is that she might have started her periods fairly early and was having some real issues with painful cramps and such. Rare in so young a girl, but not unheard of.
