It is her just starting puberty. It's totally normal. I have acne too.
One thing you can do about it is have her wash her face with warm (not hot) water and use a moisturizer for her face.
I've personally not tried ProActiv but I've heard both that it works and that it doesn't work. I guess it depends on your skin type.
Hope I helped!

See a dermatologist immediately. If it happened literally over night, it might not be acne. It could be a serious skin condition. It is possible that it was just a breakout, but you dont want to risk it. And if it is just acne, having overnight breakouts is normal for teens and even some preteens. Did you ever get bad zits when you were that age? Has she started menstruating yet? These are the most common causes of acne. Your dermatologist will recommend how to treat it (Being a dermatologist is the most impressive type of doctor- only about the top 2% of med school students are accepted into the dermatology field- so you know your daughter will be in good hands) And as a final note- make sure she DOES NOT pick at the pimples, it can cause bad, lasting scarring on the face (trust me, i know), and it can only be removed by expensive dermalogical care later in life.

It could be allergies as well. you should try cleaning and changing the bed sheets and pillow cases and cleaning the house to prevent the dust from making it any worse. Now, the medicine I used was Skinoren at night before i go to sleep, I just put dots on the affected areas. An d when I'm in school or after my bath every morning I'd apply Betnovate CREAM.These were really effective and got rid of my break out in a week, but they were really expensive. So here's an alternative, all-natural method.
The Skinoren was used to dry up my pimples.
But you can just use Toothpaste like how I used the skinoren before bedtime. It's really effective and I still use today for minor pop-ups. (like those really small unseen pimples that can just suddenly pop out overnight ans stuff).
As for the Betnovate Cream, It prevented any further swelling or scars.
A good alternative for this would be Ginger. For any scars or wounds that's on your daughter's face, you can apply a thin slice of Ginger to it for about 20 mins. this might cause a bit of a cool sensation like when you use efficacent oil. There's no need for washing after this. Another good way of getting rid of scars would be Aloe vera, just take the gel from inside the aloe vera leaves and apply it on affected area.
These are extremely affective since they are non-chemicals and are pure. (except for the toothpaste but, it still doesn't cause any future breakouts)
Here's a few other recipes you might want to try.
Carrot top facial mask
(For normal to oily skin)
2-3 large carrots
4 1/2 tablespoons honey
Cook carrots, then mash. Mix with honey. Apply gently to the skin, wait 10 minutes. Rinse off with cool water.
A plain baking soda and water mask is by far the best you can do for acne prone skin. Mix a water and baking soda in a cup until the consistancy of a thinner paste. Pat on face (do not rub) and let sit till it hardens then rinse off. This has done miracles for my sensitive acne prone skin!! Plus it's all natural! Sometimes I add a few drops of Tea Tree Oil too. You can use this every other day,
Tea Tree Oil
Some medications made from natural ingredients, such as rosehip seed oil and Tea Tree Oil, will not only help to heal scars, but also significantly work to prevent future scarring.
Leeks
Peel the membrane from white are of the leek while watching TV or resting. Place a peeling over scarred areas for ten minutes every day. You can secure it with a bandage to keep it from falling off. Keep this up for a few weeks and you'll see the color fade away.
* Avoid Oily or deep-fried foods.
Hope this helps.

I'm going through the same thing and what I do is just wash my face with some kind of cleanser and then moisturize just make sure it's an oil Free moisturizer and if you need to get rid of them fastjust use one of those benzoil peroxide cremes you can get at pretty much any store ,unless her skin dries really easily. I really wounld'nt bother buying proactiv or any of those infomercials it costs too much and it gives you the same thing.

Eat healthier foods (McDonalds=out). Scrub and moisturize face every other day, but other than that-keep your hands off it! The oils in your fingers will cause more outbreaks.

Trying to conceive & SO EXCITED!

begin with washing her face at least 2 times a day. A Gentle soap and water may take care of the problem. If the problem still persists there are a lot of different acne creams, wipes, soaps, etc that you can buy at any drug store. In extreme cases, you sometimes have to consult a doctor and there is medication.
You mentioned that she is 12, could it be that she is starting puberty? does she have her period yet? I wouldn't be surprised if she gets it soon.
I am almost 23, and I sometimes still get acne, mostly right before my period starts.
Hope that helps. :-)
