Apparently Avon Skin-so-Soft is the answer! It isn't intended to be an insect repellent, but apparently it works! Have a great holiday!

Start now taking antihistamine tablets, its stops them biting you - it is better to take for 2 weeks before you go, keep taking them, the ones from poundshop will do. The Avon cream helps.

Where there is a possibility of malaria always seek medical advice.
However I have been using AVON skin so soft dry oil spray for years and it does work.
Once bitten put some antihystamine cream on bite it does help to stop the swelling and blistering
Apparently eating Garlic halps too, but a bit unsociable on holiday
Have a good holiday.

The mossies, do not like Lavender. rub Lavender water on all over, eat Garlic. Or put disinfectant in your bathwater, just a teaspoon.

mosquitoes love sweet blood also the smell of deodrants an purfume attract them so stay clear of them use an unpurfumed soap os body wash and use a good mosquito repellant. if you have a fan in your room use it as it keeps the air moving and can prevent them from landing. and also maybe keep a plug in repellant would be really handy.

mosquito's always enter through opened window and doors, so ensure you close all windows and door preferably in the evening, and spray your room or flat with Listerine mouth wash that should work wonder and do the trick it also leaves no offensives smell around the place as most insect repellent.
During the day you could spray some Jungle Formula insect repellent around the exposed area
of your skin have a nice bite free holiday.

I'm from Australia and mosquitos are something we deal with (year round in some parts) all the time.
I always use a personal insect repellent (we have loads of different brands) to keep them off my body. You can buy chemical and non-chemical ones but to be sure I use the chemical one.
The mossie repellent plug-ins are fantastic for keeping them out of your room.
I went to Greece last year and did the above two things, plus I also lit a mossie coil outside the open door (when we didn't use the air-con and let the breeze come in instead.) Neither of us got bitten even once!
Just a hint: buy the plug in device from Turkey when you get there, so it matches the power sockets.

if you are going to turkey, they have the best mossie repellent i have ever come across. can't remember what its called as i was there years ago before it became over rated and over developed, but go into any shop and ask for their own mossie repellent. before you go, get a good general repellent from boots, cos you will be bitten as soon as you get off the plane, but oncce there, use the local stuff. have fun. p.s. it stinks, but it works!

I went to Pakistan with my mum for the first ever a few years ago and I took every insect repellent on the market, but the one thing that worked the best was Citronella oil. I applied it directly to my skin and I wasn't bitten once (only bitten when I forgot to use Citronella Oil)
Most insect repellents contain citronella but its not as strong as using it neat, its got a strong but bearable smell, try it, honestly it works. Enjoy your holiday!!

I went to Turkey 10 years ago mossies love that place!!!! I went to Marmaris although it was great my friends got bite loads. I was told to take Garlic tablets by a local health food place who I worked for at the time I did not want to clog my body with chemicals. It worked really well. I did get bit but not much compaired to everyone else we met. To ward them off buy a plug thingy my brother has just come back from Tyland and swears by it. He did not have to fight off one creapy crawley but tells his girlfrend he did!!!!!
Good luck and have fun

if your hotel or apartments have air conditioning turn it down low in the evening when you go out and shut all the windows, then when you come back its too cold for them. as an added precaution get one of those plug in repellents. also if there is a particular problem in your area try and wear a long sleeve top and long trousers in the evening and spray with a good repellent, one that has lemon in it is usually good. remember you cant see the little devils so if you think they arent there they may well be.

first thing is don,t leave you doors or windows open on the night time then you can buy mosquito sprays and plug ins plus they are attracted to the colour blue so make sure you do where any clothes with this coloue the best thing i have used is a net which covers your bed it works like a tent but simpler to put up

500 mg of B1 a day will do it. The smell that B1 makes your body emit drives the mosquitoes away.
Foods that are rich in B1:
Yeast
Oatmeal
Brown rice
Whole grain flour (rye or wheat)
Asparagus
Kale
Cauliflower
Potatoes
Oranges
Pork
Cured ham
Liver (beef or pork)
Eggs
I'd suggesting whole grain bread for breakfast, and cauliflower, eggs, and oranges through the day. Just make sure you have at least two types in your diet regularly.
Some mosquito repellents attract other insects, most often hornets and bees, and they also affect your perspiration and may affect allergies.
--
For instant remedies:
1. Try ultrasonic repellers: they emit a high frequency sound that imitates the sound of grasshoppers or bats, and it drives mosquitoes, flies, and rodents away.
2. Try mosquito repellent stickers instead of directly spraying it onto your skin.

Avon Skin so soft creams are reputed to help and I got a load in because everything bites me. Luckily not so far this year yet. But my cousin in Canada was telling me that bugs hate Listerine and if you put that on your skin it stops them biting. She also sprays it on her patio when they're barbqueing to keep the bugs at bay.

Well, Ihere are some ideas but first use what you -yourself are suggesting -eg B1 & Avon sss.!
Then try applying unscented Citronella Oil on your arms legs Neck ears etc.
Or go consult a chemist for an equivalent cream or oil to apply on limbs trunk etc.
Also wear long sleeves & slacks to stop mossies biting when up..
We-havemosquito repellent coils , which when burnt drive mossies away!
At night use a good mosquito net. to sleep under.

Well firstly you need to make sure you are up to date with your malaria jab in case you do get bitten and well.. you dont want malaria do you?
anyway there are many different sprays available from shops like boots and superdrug which claim to repel the bugs and stop them from biting you
also you could try keeping all windown and doors closed in your room, this will stop them from coming in
i am going on holiday soon and will be in the same boat as you :)
apparantly eating Garlic works but i personally havent tried it,
the spray works best for me
good luck and have a good holiday :)

Going to Costa del Sol early next month - was told a spray called 'Autan' was excellent, and so have bought three sprays. Friend swears by it. As for in homes - go to the supermarkets, and they will have all sorts of things, from plug-in zappers to things you light (like a candle). Good luck!!

Look around supermarkets or even better around Boots, and look for mosquitoe repllents that have DEET in them, you will see this on the back under ingredients. A product with over 50% DEET woud be brilliant. Try and get a product for the skin which included deet as well as having a plug in insect repellent
Make sure you turn air conditioning on when in turkey but keep the windows and doors closed when you go out on a night.
If the product isnt working when over in Turkey then buy a lemon...strong smells repell them away

Aeroguard works for us, and at the supermarket you can usually get these bracelet things that are also a repellant. Take some Chamomile lotion too, to soothe any bites.
Good luck, enjoy yourself!

if you are not allergic, use any product that is long lasting, waterproof, and contains a high concentration of DEET (look in ingredients).
Other than that, try to avoid bogs/marshes/standing water and if possible, wear covering clothing. The DEETs the big thing though.
Best of luck!

Oil of lemon Eucalyptus has been recommended by the Center for Disease Control as an effective natural insect repellant.
According to Wikipedia website, " For protection against mosquitos, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control issued a statement in May 2008 recommending equally DEET, picaridin, oil of lemon Eucalyptus and IR3535 for skin. [8] Permethrin is recommended for clothing, gear, or bed nets.[9] In an earlier report, the CDC found oil of lemon Eucalyptus to be more effective than other plant-based treatments, with a similar effectiveness to low concentrations of DEET.[8] However, a 2006 published study found in both cage and field studies that a product containing 40% oil of lemon Eucalyptus was just as effective as products containing high concentrations of DEET. [10] Research has also found that Neem oil is mosquito repellent for up to 12 hours.[11] Citronella oil's mosquito repellency has also been verified by research,[12] including effectiveness in repelling Aedes aegypti,[13][14] but requires reapplication after 30-60 minutes." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insect_repellent
