A sun burn will continue to get worse, and burn deeper for 12 hours.
Whatever you do you must be vigilant (persistant) with it for at least 12 hours.
Extra virgin coconut oil will help to work against the burn.
This has worked extremely well for me.
Cold water will also draw out the heat.
I use cold water the most for burns of any kind.
Because of the size of the burn, a bathtub of water that is cool enough to cool the burn, and yet not so cold that you get chilled on the rest of your body will help to draw out the heat..
This is a very fine line.
Go to a homeopathic physician.
For a severe burn of any kind I have used a homeopathic remedy called 'apis mellifica' at a potency of '30 CH' and a potency of '200 CH'. It is available at some health food stores and some pharmacies (you would have to ask your pharmacist for it).
Put 10 drops in a little water and hold the liquid under your tongue for a little while before swallowing, or if it has a spray type top on it then just spray one pump under the tongue and hold it for a little while (then you have the convenience of not having to put it in water).
Take only one dose and wait to see if it has a cooling affect on the burn. If it does then wait until the burn starts to heat again before you take another dose. If it doesn't change it within 5 minutes take another dose, up to three doses in total, in 5 minute intervals.
If at any point it is improved don't take any more until it starts to heat again (if you do you could 'prove' the remedy and cause the burn to get much worse)
If the 30 CH helps it but after awhile it doesn't last very long then you can use a 200 CH to get a longer acting affect.
Please be very careful. Only use the 200 CH if you really need to.
If you happen to make a mistake and start to 'prove' the remedy sniff Peppermint, or Menthol, or Eucalyptus to help to cancel it's affects.
It is always best to go to a homeopathic physician for advice.
I have followed my homeopathic physicians advice for over 15 years now, and it works better than anything wlse.
But the best thing I have used for burns is cold water, and a LOT of persistance.

Shower for 10mins in cold water, if someone can help you, dabb area dry then get them to cover the areas with glad wrap (even if it means wrapping your whole body in it), cool again in the shower (with glad wrap on if it's heating up), throw on a robe and go to the doctor (leave gladwrap or clingfilm on until you get to the doctor).
Gladwrap helps to stop the air from getting at the burn and will give you relief for a while, it will also minimise scarring if any is to occur but you need to cool the area completely before placing it on.
Good luck and hope you recover soon.

Ok, basic first aid tells us that if you have a burn bigger than the size of your palm then it should be looked at by a professional. Sunburn is just as bad as say a scold, so go get it checked out, even if the doctor isn't concerned they can always give you something for the pain! Also if its blistering it might need cleaning before infection kicks in!

Aloe Vera is definitely the best thing for the pain and will have an immediate affect on the pain. it is an effective wound healer, aiding in the treatment of sunburn or any burn for that matter !! if you have access to an aloe plant, split a leaf and apply the pulp directly to the injured area, or soak cloth with aloe vera gel and bind on. Make sure you test it say on your hands first as some people can have severe allergic reactions to it.
GOODLUCK

***edit** Put a cup of white vinegar into a cool bath and soak for 10 - 15 minutes to eliminate the itch and terrible sting if you don't have access to aloe vera.

ice them down! Seriously you need to take a cold bath, and then stay in there until the swelling goes down from the burns. After the bath you need to use moisturizers and stay in cool areas for a good while. Just take it easy for a few days.

First, go see a doctor. You may have damaged your skin in ways that you don't quite know about or won't see the affect until years after.
They might prescribe a lotion or medication to repair some of the unseen damage.
You may also want to use Aloe Vera gel, as it will speed the process of healing and peeling.
Prevent future damage, and wear Sunscreen IMMEDIATELY even if under clothes. UV rays go through clothes!

Try Nivea cooling lotion. Whatever you do, dont pot baby oil or toothpaste for relief. If it really hurts, try Burnt oinment which is available in the local pharmacy. Put generous amounts of cream with SPF50(or higher) if you can't avoid going out again in the sun.

It is possible to get 3rd degree burns from the sun which are very serious as they can get infected with staphylococcus and other mean bugs. However, usually 3rd degree burns have damaged the nerves so bad you don't even feel it. If you are blistering you are probably dealing with 2nd degree. They too can get infected so watch closely.
I have found that apple cider vinegar does more to pull the heat out than any commercially packaged product. Just continuously saturate the burned areas with undiluted vinegar until you get relief. After it has air dried, you can apply a cream or lotion with Benzocaine in it, the higher percentage the better.
That should get you over the hump. Just remember if things get worse, go to the ER or your primary care physician. Secondary infections can be a bummer and extremely painful.
I have been in your shoes on more than one occasion. I feel as I have learned my lesson now. I hope you have as well! The burning memories don't leave easily.
Merry Christmas!
