Terry J	People get infected with HIV because they either share needles with some one that has HIV, have unprotected sex with some one that has HIV, gets a transfusion from someone who has HIV or comes in contact with infectious bodily fluids of someone who has HIV. As to the question itself... umm, in Ethiopia they have very poor living conditions and are not real big on the use of condoms. Also rape is very prevalent there. As to others... bad karma? ~Loafie~	Sexual intercourse- Vaginal and Anal- without using a condom. Sexual juices is one way of passing it on. I think through oral sex to if yuo swallow the semen (Not sure about this). Breast feeding- If the mother is HIV positive and Child Birth. Sharing needles- this is why drug users can get it- They get infected blood in their systems. marioz08	People get infected with HIV which is the final stage of AIDS but any way ppl get infected mainly ppl are to scared to tell anyone that they have it and have sex with some1 else and without them noticing any signs of it they have sex with some1 else, and so and so fourth. Angel H	HIV is spread most often through sexual intercourse and blood transmission. Infected mothers and pass it on to their children. I live in the U.S. My brother-in-laws younger brother has HIV. He has been on medication for it since the early 90's and luckily it has never turned into full blown AIDS. He is living life as a somewhat healthy adult. I heard on television that some people in other countries believe that have "relations" with a virgin will cure them. This is complete myth. It only aids in the spread of the disease. There is no known cure for HIV. You can only limit your chances of contracting the illness by using protection (condoms) during intercourse, limiting partners, or practicing celibacy and limiting contact with others blood. stephers	You're a fool. There's a vague social factore but it's very little to do with Ethiopia unless you're Ethiopian. People get it because they are either unlucky or unsafe. Unlucky - you might have gotten a blood transfusion before they tested blood products for HIV or you might get a needle stick injury or blood splash from a HIV positive person or your mum or dad might have had HIV and passed it onto you before you were even born.
