Nope, the S bit stands for Sexually (Sexually Transmitted Diseases kind of says it all).

However, thrush is not an STD and can be got a number of ways and syphilis and HIV can be hereditary. So it would depend on the disease really.

very unlikely, but blood to blood could do it. Say you kissed someone with AIDs and you had a cut in your mouth.

needles, oral ( which is sex btw), bodily fluids and every once in a great while, a crab covered toilet seat.

thousands of ways, different diseases are spread in different ways, some fairly easily, sharing toothbrushes and bathtowels for instance, others are very specific and usually through an exchange of fluids.
if you have one i suspect you were in very close proximity to the person you caught it from.

Yes. You can be exposed to crabs by using a toilet that someone with crabs has used. Also, from using an infected towel, (like someone else has used with an STD), tanning beds, hotel beds, lots of places. Not all STDs can be spread so easily. The best way to find out what they are and how they can be spread is to read and research them via the internet.

Absolutely!!! If someone with an open wound with aids or if they get their blood on you and it happened to get in your mouth or a cut you can get it that way. There was a case where a patient went to the dentist and got an std someway through the procedure being done. And that's another reason why dentists wear those masks as well.

If someone has a herpes outbreak you can get it by contact. But it's not actually just sex it is like everyone else says, through the exchange of bodily fluids, and intravenous drugs, and blood transfusions.

Oral sex can pass on std's!

sparkle
It depends on which STD.

Oh and oral sex still counts as sex....

If someone is having an herpes outbreak it can be passed on through skin contact...

And most through some bodily fluid.

Though HIV cannot be passed on through saliva. So sharing a toothbrush, or kissing someone with HIV won't mean you'll get HIV (same with receiving oral sex)

waterlily
Certain STD's can also be transmitted without actually intercourse. Any time you share body fluids, you can transmit a disease (this also goes for non-STD's).

When you say sex, do you mean intercourse? The answer is YES.

If the person you are engaging in physical contact with has an STD, yes you can STD in other way than sexual intercourse. Oral or manual stimulation can carry risks although they are less than actual intercourse.

You can't get anything from a door knob or toilet seat.

Dr Frank
If you injected yourself with contaminated body fluids either intentionally or accidentally, or got them in to an open wound, it would be possible.

Also there are some infections that can sometimes be spread sexually and can be spread in other ways, like thrush and scabies.

Generally however STDs are quite sensitive organisms and cannot survive outside.

OohLaLa
Generally speaking no. Oral sex is still considered sex even if it isn't intercourse. Any time there is a trading of bodily fluids there can be a chance.

Exchange of bodily fluids in any manner. Blood transfusions, oral sex, sharing needles, etc.

And for those who are attempting a technicality because the S stands for Sexually, that just means that is a way the Disease can be Transmitted. You are talking about the disease itself when you say STD, Sexually Transmitted DISEASE. Syphilis is an STD, but it can be gotten through means other than sex.

there are some STD's you can get with out having sex...say if someone had oral herpes...and they was broke out on their lips..you didn't know they had oral herpes and you went to drink out of the glass..you can get them because the virus is on the glass and when you touch your lip to the glass you can easly get them...Over 90% of teenagers today break out with Oral herpes..they dont know it either..but no one gives it to them they have it in their blood...but when it does break out and you start having break outs..it takes 2 to 3 years a teenager to get rid of them..they go away on their own..now genal herpes they wont go away..so yes you can get types of STD's without having sex..what if you was dating this one girl and she was cheating on you and she went down on a guy that had a std and you went to kiss her the germs from the disease is still in her mouth and she gives the germs to you..now you have them....the person above me just answered the question...yes you can get HIV through kissing...and a tooth brush..if you dont believe me look it up
