How likely is it to get HIV if you are a top during gay sex?
Rather stupidly I recently had unprotected sex with a couple of guys without a condom. I was top and only came inside one of them and now I am wracked with fear that i've picked something up. I'll be heading to the the clinic for testing but I am terrified of going. I know you can get HIV (along with other things) through anal mucus but from what I can see/feel my penis has no cuts or lesions or sores so that would mean it would have to travel up my urethra but how likely is this?. Is it as risky as if you were on the recieving end?

One question, WHY?? I had a couple of bisexual moments myself and I was always the top but you know what, I was smart, I ALWAYS wrapped up, now I find it nasty, I hated myself for doing it, never ever no more, thats why I never ejaculated in a gay man, the only way I did it was, jacking off or having them jack me off, I rarely gave oral and when I did, as soon as I tasted the precum, I would quit, whip my tongue on something clean, go to the bathroom, put water or Mouthwash in my mouth, gargle to make sure I got it off, and then I just stop.

I know people are going to come on here and insult you, but we all make mistakes. The reason it's more common among gay men is because the anus stretches and bleeds. Even if you don't see blood, there's still bleeding tissue. But yes, it's a strong possibility if these guys are infected. How recently was the sex because it can take 3-6 months for aids to show up on an aids test. there's a sickness called seroconversion that most people come down with about 2 weeks or less after infected with aids. Not all people get it but most do. It's like a very bad flu that can last up to months. Almost all aids cases start out with seroconversion. After you're tested, go back in 3 months and then 3 months after that just to make sure. good luck :)

It is actually more risky if you are a top, so I hear. I never thought so, but I guess it is, especially with low lubrication. I'm not going to judge you though, I personally am a straight woman but we all have our different lives, nobody's business but our own. I suggest you go find a guy who is willing to have an STD test and maybe the two of you can have fun unprotected sex, without all these fears. But be careful about your test. if this was recent, HIV results may not be accurate.

Ms. Le'Kia
Having anal sex without a condom continues to be a significant threat to the health of msm. Unprotected anal sex (barebacking) with casual partners is an increasing concern. Not all the reasons for an apparent increase in unprotected anal intercourse are known, but research points to the following factors: optimism about improved HIV treatment, substance use, complex sexual decision making, seeking sex partners on the Internet, and failure to practice safer sex .

Some of these men may be serosorting, or only having sex (or unprotected sex) with a partner whose HIV serostatus, they believe, is the same as their own. Although serosorting between msm who have tested HIV-positive is likely to prevent new HIV transmission to persons who are not infected, the effectiveness of serosorting between men who have tested HIV-negative has not been established.

Serosorting with condom use may further reduce the risk of HIV transmission. However, for men with casual partners, serosorting alone is likely to be less effective than always using condoms because some men do not know or disclose their HIV serostatus

Hope this helps. Good Luck!!!!

Maybe not but you should get tested and always protect yourself. Take condoms with you in case. If someone gets made because you want to protect your life you don't need them in your life.

Less of a risk, but a risk nonetheless. Get tested. Wear a condom. Don't ride bareback. HIV is on the rise again, especially in gay men. Protect yourself.... no one else will.

there is always a risk with unprotected sex whether you are the giver or taker. The risk of HIV transmission is pretty low in the general population with a risk factor of 0.3-3%. You have less risk if you were the giver. The fact that you had no open sores is also a plus. Have you taked to the other guys to see if they have HIV or other things?
I would get tested for the following anyhow and repeat the test in 6-8 weeks because most disease have converted to positive testing state by then:
HIV, Hep C, Hep B, Gonorrhea and chylamydia

The HIV test will show positive within 3 months most of the time and almost always within six months of infection. You should wate at lest 3 months befor seeing the doc. If I was you I would call the clinic and ask them what your risk factors would be from what you have told me here. Symptoms of HIV are flu-like symptoms , Signs of HIV include headache, cough, diarrhea, swollen glands, lack of energy, loss of appetite and weight loss, fevers and sweats, repeated yeast infections, skin rashes, pelvic and abdominal cramps, sores in the mouth or on certain parts of the body, or short-term memory loss.
Getting Tested for HIV/AIDS
It can take as long as 3 to 6 months after the infection for the virus to show up in your blood.
Your health care provider can test your blood for HIV/AIDS. If you don't have a health care provider, check your local phone book for the phone number of a hospital or health center where you can get a list of test sites.
Many health care providers who test for HIV also can provide counseling.
In most states the tests are private, and you can choose to take the test without giving your name.
You can now also test your blood at home. The "Home Access Express HIV-1 Test System" is made by the Home Access Health Corporation. You can buy it at the drug store. It is the only HIV home test system approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and legally sold in the United States. Other HIV home test systems and kits you might see on the Internet or in magazines or newspapers have not been approved by FDA and may not always give correct results
