vase	yes it can, even though there is no visible outbreak the organsim can still be on the skin. when you give oral sex the organism can transfer onto you and spread. also there could be no organism present at the time making it okay to preform oral sex. the bump on your lip could have simply bin a cold sore.. nothing to worry about it. i highly doubt you have herpes.. doctors can be stupid. ESweetPea	Yes. Herpes can lie dormant and most people have been exposed to the oral herpes (cold sore) virus (though not everybody has outbreaks.) Herpes is a virus. You can't take antibiotics to help the virus or keep it from spreading. You may need to take anti-virals IF you have genital herpes, but genital herpes is spread by genital contact. Oral herpes can spread to other mucous membranes (anus and genitals) or vice-versa WITH DIRECT CONTACT. But if you have cold sores, it doesn't mean you have it anywhere else. Your doc thought it was herpes because, let's face it, it probably was. If practically everybody's been exposed to it, then anybody could get it anytime. Now, as far as spreading it, your best bet is to avoid outbreaks, which is prime time to spread the virus (though it can be spread even without any noticeable symptoms.) Outbreaks are generally triggered by sun exposure (wear sunblock, especially on your lips!) and stress. If, IF you have genital herpes, you can spread it to a baby through labor. You may need anti-viral medicine or even a C-section IF you're having an outbreak while you're pregnant. But if it's oral, that doesn't mean it's genital. Oral herpes is super-common, but genital herpes (or oral herpes in the genital area) is tougher to spread. If you or your husband is having an outbreak, DO NOT HAVE UNPROTECTED SEX!!!! lovinlifeinchrist	There are 2 types of herpes, Simplex A and Simplex B. One is oral and one is genital. Oral herpes (fever blisters) usually appear during times of fever, illness, great stress, too much exposure to the sun (severe sunburn), anything that stresses the immune system. Oral herpes can become genital herpes if the person with an "active" outbreak has oral sex with a non-infected person. Like your Dr. told you, if you ever get another fever blister, have it tested. You could still have the herpes virus, it might Just not have had a reason to show up, I get cold sores when I'm stressed out, that's the herpes virus, I think You have the same. Herpes really can be spread at any time.. Even with no signs of an outbreak, there are medications out there for this sort of thing, Go back to Your family doctor and find out what You can do. Sage	Yes, it can be spread by oral sex. It is just part of the family of cold sores...chicken pox...shingles..it is a virus. I do believe if you'd had it you would have had more than a single red bump. I went online and looked at pictures of it and it can get anywhere on your body. It is a blistered place or several blisters that break down into open, raw places. You would no doubt be miserable if you had this and it said there is usually more than the initial outbreak which is usually the worst. tkquestion	Yes, you can get herpes with oral sex. You can even get it from casual kissing, believe it or not. Be aware though, there are two types of herpes. Type 1 and type 2. One is more linked to sexual contact and happens in your genitals and the other is called cold sore and could get it from touching someone who is infected. While, generally, one is likely to happen on lips whereas the other one on genitals, one or the other can go either location. How do you know? You get it tested by a doctor. A simple blood test will show you if you have either-or type of herpes. More detailed test will show which type you have. Just ask your doctor. He/she will give you a blood test. Also be aware, statistically, 25% of the population has the virus. It really isn't that great of a deal, and it doesn't gurantee you got it from sexual contact either. Whatever you do, don't panic.
