I smoked over the summer, probably about 3 packs. Are my lungs going to be seriously damaged?

well, you're not at risk for emphysema yet, (or cancer) but that doesn't mean you should keep on smoking. what happens is, whenever you smoke, hundreds of your alveoli die... and once they die, they can never grow back. so if you keep smoking -- you will eventually go down that path. 3 packs a day is a lot.

smoking is a very bad habit, however you have not smoked long enough to have any long term damage. That tends to take years. I was told by a Dr. That it takes 1 month for your lungs to expel and heal itself of 1 year of smoking. So if you smoke for 10 years it will take 10 months to a year to have your lungs fight off the poisons and tars. Whether or not you can run a marathon or hold your breath for along length of time is only a result of hard work and training. I think youll be fine. Congrats on quitting its the best decision you will ever make.

You're fine, you get that many poisons just sitting in traffic every few months.

It will, of course, have a minor effect, but it will not permanently hurt you. 3 packs isn't a lot, but I still don't recommend smoking. Glad you quit. It'll save your life!

They may to a certain extent or perhaps no damage at all. It depends on certain factors such as genetics.

By stopping you're preventing further damage. If you're worried see a Respiratory Specialist.

No, your lungs won't be damaged from smoking for 2 months. If you are smart, you won't start smoking again. I have smoked for over 30 years, and I know my lungs are probably damaged, but your's are not. Good luck to ya. Here is a question, Why did you smoke to begin with? Coz' your friends were smoking?

Probably not. Your lungs tend to go back to normal as soon as you quit smoking. That is a general truth. If you continue to smoke on and off .. then you will have problems. So quit .. and quit for good. Good Luck ! :)

I doubt there will be any serious repercussions from you smoking for two months. Generally people who develop emphysema or chronic bronchitis (2 types of what is called copd, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) have smoked for years, not 2 months. Just don't start again. People who die from copd don't die pretty.

Not really.Fortunately you stopped early enough. You should never start smoking again though.

Shouldn't be too damaged. Don't continue smoking and your lungs should recover.

No. The body has a marvelous way of rectifying any damage, and you haven't smoked enouh to do any. Some people smoke three packs every day with no damage.
