That's me
 |
I can come home after a meal out and not have my hair stink, or have my kids clothes stink, of cigarette smoke. The food also tastes better without having to inhale disgusting second hand smoke. Even if you are sitting in the no smoking section, it always seemed to find it's way over. So I would say, it has affected me, and my family in a very good way.

I don't smoke and I have asthma. The smoking ban came out here in Ireland 29th March 2004 and has been a complete success. The air is cleaner and it is nice to out and com home as fresh as you went out.

I'm NOT happy about it at all, I don't think I will bother renewing my Country Club membership, it's just a complete load of garbage. And I used to go over to the local pub and play the pokies sometimes, but I think that is out too, I loved smoking while I was playing the pokies.
I just don't get it, they could at least allow smoking in the poker machine rooms, everyone in there smokes anyway, so who are we hurting????
Screw the smoking ban it sucks
the pubs and clubs are going to be the biggest losers out of the ban anyway - not the smokers

It helped me to quit smoking altogether! I've found this with loads of people that I know. Apparently, most smokers tend to be "social smokers" - only lighting up when they're out at bars, restaurants, clubs, etc. So initially the ban was a little painful, but then once the permanency of the situation set in, I realized that I had no desire to really smoke at all. Removing the environment that supported the smoking was the key to enabling me to quit.

There are many effect for me but the most significant is that I can now go to my village pub in comfort as I have not been there for about 20 years. Due only to the smoke.

It seems that many answer contributors here are worried about the smell on their clothing, that they breathe easier or that the air is now cleaner with more oxygen. Is it true that the air is better now? Do you know what you are breathing in everyday, everywhere? Does the free tobacco smoke makes the air cleaner?
There are so many pollutants in the air. Which is more dangerous to health? Obnoxious smell or odourless gas. Dangerous nano-particles or carcinogenic benzene in the air. Are they not the same. So why pick on one and let the others go scot free.

It means that I can socialise with my friends without worrying about getting cancer from the cigarettes of smokers and that I can arrive home without having my clothes or hair smelling of smoke or coughing for days afterwards. A great decision for all concerned!

I am just a social smoker - so going to pubs and not smoking will be unusual, but smokers can still go outside. Most places cater for smokers with designated outside areas. But, look how scruffy places will look with fag butts all over the place. I agree totally to non smoking in eating areas, public transport etc. Might even help us to give up the disgusting habit. Ireland managed to adapt without a fuss.....go the Irish!!!!

It makes me stay at home, because everywhere I go there is the smoke police. So, all the restaurants and bars don't get my money.

doesn't bother me, the main reason I don't go to pubs is the prices they charge, and having other peoples awful kids running around, so I guess I will continue to smoke and drink at home.
