There is a little swith in your brain that regulates your breathing when ou are asleep. It is controled by the level of oxygen & carbon monoxide levels in your blod.

When too much OC2 builds up, it turns the sweitch off & you stop breathing. That is the simple way that I explained to my father how he would die-he would just neer wake up. It is not painful.
