I believe that you misspelled a word. The stomach holds food that was eatten, until acids break it up and helps your digested system use it to help build your body.

The stomach is consisting of some acids which help in degrading the food into dissolvable substance.

The digestive system is a series of hollow organs joined in a long, twisting tube from the mouth to the anus (see figure). Inside this tube is a lining called the mucosa. In the mouth, stomach, and small intestine, the mucosa contains tiny glands that produce juices to help digest food.

Two solid organs, the liver and the pancreas, produce digestive juices that reach the intestine through small tubes. In addition, parts of other organ systems (for instance, nerves and blood) play a major role in the digestive system.

Why is digestion important?

When we eat such things as bread, meat, and vegetables, they are not in a form that the body can use as nourishment. Our food and drink must be changed into smaller molecules of nutrients before they can be absorbed into the blood and carried to cells throughout the body. Digestion is the process by which food and drink are broken down into their smallest parts so that the body can use them to build and nourish cells and to provide energy.

How is food digested?

Digestion involves the mixing of food, its movement through the digestive tract, and the chemical breakdown of the large molecules of food into smaller molecules. Digestion begins in the mouth, when we chew and swallow, and is completed in the small intestine. The chemical process varies somewhat for different kinds of food.

I just want to tell you that I am sorry for all of the rude and mean answers you have received. The spell check doesn't work ON the first part of the question. They are being unusually mean you are just as smart as any of those Yahoo's. The Stomach has acids that break down the food so that it can be pushed through the intestines and out the colon, or bladder.

The stomach's primary function is to break down large molecules (such as from food) into smaller ones using Hydrochloric Acid so that they can be absorbed from the small intestine.

Secondary functions include protein digestion using pepsin enzymes, and absorbing water, some ions, and some lipid soluble compounds such as alcohol, Aspirin, and caffeine.

The only essential function of the stomach is Intrinsic factor, a product of the parietal cells that is needed for absorption of vitamin B12

It receives food from the mouth which through peristalsis pushes it into the stomach. Gastric juices are released and the stomach contents churn, bile emulsifies the fats and then the mixture goes into the small intestine where nutrients are absorbed. The large colon then reabsorbs water and the waste is eliminated from the rectum through the anus. Something like that.

How does your stomach work? It bathes your masticated (chewed) and swallowed food in acid and uses its muscles to grind on it until it becomes a slurry ready to move on down your digestive tract into your intestines.

Other animals' (ruminants, specifically) stomachs are more complex, but that pretty well covers it for humans.
