Anyone know of a REALLY good cure for migraines?
my friend has been suffering from migraines for about a month or so now and was put on some painkillers for them by the doctor but to no avail. anyone know of anything over the counter, herbal or prescribed medicines available that are really good.

he has been suffereing constantly from them. also he has a problem with his stomach (possible perferated ulcer) so he cannot (should not, not that he really takes much notice!) take paracetamol, ibuprofen and asprin.

he's going to the doctors again 2moro but i was just wondering if there was anything that could help for today.

thanks in advance for any advice!

That's a good answer from HOLLADOLLA. Some people eat one Feferfew leaf a day and it prevents migraine attacks, it's easy to grow even in a pot on the doorstep or window ledge. It's best to also look into the causes.

Other common triggers are cheese, oranges, shellfish, and MSG (Monosodium glutamate) a flavour enhancer used extensively in Chinese cooking and used to be in a lot of UK sausages, meat stew and gravy type products. Check stock cube packets and gravy granules. It will just be listed as 'flavour enhancer' probably. Some Chinese restaurants will prepare you the dish you want without it if you ask, and believe me they taste just as good.

Peppers and tomatoes also contain tannin, like tea, a little may be OK but a dish with lots of red or green peppers in might not be good.

One of my triggers was exhaust fumes, and cold feet plus stress at the same time could do it. Sleep deprivation also contributes. Mine stopped when I began taking a specific multi-nutinutrient liquid and comprehensive antioxidant formula. Loads of other health problems cleared up as well.

Candida overgrowth and other parasite presence can be part of it, and cutting out every scrap of wheat and wheat product and as many other gluten grains as he can may make a big difference. He would add these changes one at a time, so he knows which ones are effective.

When an attack is threatening, if he's at home and he can lie down with a hot chammomile poultice on his abdomen it may Clear Away. I used to put a few spoonfuls of the dried flowers in the middle of a large handkerchief and fold it over in thirds, then pour on a small drop of boiling water to moisten it , lie down and spread it below my navel and cover with a plastic bag and a folded warmed towel to keep it warm and keep my clothes and the bed dry. It's worth a try.

I used to keep dairy goats and sell goat's milk, yogurt and soft cheese to migraine, asthma and exema sufferers, not only because cow's milk is a major cause of these conditions but also goat's milk has a buffereing effect and slows or reduces the entry of allergens into the bloodstream. One chap allergic to bananas and shellfish could eat them if he drank a pint of (raw) goat's milk first.

Cutting out cow's milk, cheese, yogurt etc can be effective if he also checks every processed food he eats for dried milk or Whey powder and the like, usually in biscuits, bread, sauces and all kinds of unexpected places. You have to be vigilant. Bovine allergy exists (ie all cow and beef products, not just the milk) so if cutting out cows milk products helps but doesn't clear it up completely, it's worth including all beef products for a while.

So basically there is no simple cure, but he can beat it if he keeps trying till he finds out what works. Oh I nearly forgot, the 'Food Combining' way of eating helps, contact me for details if you like

its a case of finding what works for u. i have had things on prescription but find paramol usually works for me. my doctor suggested trying soluble painkillers as once the headache starts and u feel sick your stomach wont work so quick so it takes longer for pills to work, soluble painkillers get absorbed quicker.

I am a former migraine sufferer. I would have headaches that would last 6 months at a time. I tried so many different meds. Most of them left me drowsy and unable to function, so I just dealt with it. I woke up with them and went to sleep with them. Then two years ago I was introduced to Xango, and all natural mangosteen juice drink. After drinking for a week my headaches are gone and have not been back in two years.

Here are some testimonials on how others have been dealing with there migraines since taking this liquid Vitamin And Mineral supplement.....
Migraine Headaches:
"I used to get three to four severe migraines a month. I've been getting these since I was around 10 years old. These were the full-blown aura and vomit inducing kind. Some would last for days. I've been to many doctors and nobody has a definite answer to it. The only answer that all of them had has been to prescribe some medication and that was that. I have grown up watching my mother suffer from these same migraines. She is frequently in the hospital emergency room or self-inducing Imitrex shots. I decided a long time ago that I would not take medications. They are not the solution. Two months ago I was introduced to mangosteen. Ever since then I have not had a single episode. I had my mother start taking it as well and she also has not had one since either."
-Brett-

Migraine Headaches:
"Although we are not permitted to claim that the minerals & mangosteen cures all migraine headaches, you can believe me, and I would shout it from the hilltops. I'll tell you that after many years of suffering with horrendous migraine pain, I have not had a migraine in nearly a month. I averaged one or more per month extreme migraines & several more per month of lesser intensity. Even my hair hurt, and my hair dresser even told me many times that it not only straightened the permanent wave out of my hair, my hair lost life for a period of time after a headache.

I was part of a clinical study a local doctor presented to the Cleveland Clinic of Cleveland, Ohio (world renowned) to study the patterns & experimental treatments for migraines, for which he was awarded National recognition, but he never cured MY headaches.

If you are among those of us who have spent days bedfast, unable to bear any lights or tolerate the sounds of daily life around us and in a state of total non-function because of the excruciating pain of a migraine headaches, then please take my advice and get some of the minerals & mangosteen as quickly as possible. I am humbly grateful for its results in my life. I want to shout it from the mountain top!

I have experienced other changes as well...........like a restful night?s sleep, more energy, eyesight is clearer, more mental alertness and simply feeling better than I have in years. My allergies to pets, molds, dust, and fragrances are noticeably improving from week to week. I am looking forward to Spring & Summer this year. How terrific to be able to enter homes of friends and relatives, who own pets without an asthma attach to follow. I feel certain that my allergies will be disappearing given a little more time on the minerals & mangosteen."

A good cure for migraine is to stay away from a noisy environment, a regular 8-hour sleep, a balance diet and peace of mind.

I recommend trying alternative/complementary medicine for two reasons;
1. Your friend has been discouraged from standard painkillers
2. Migraines are often caused by lifestyle factors (diet/stress etc) which have been found to be successfully managed by complementary medicine.

Your friend could try Acupuncture, which is well-known in migraine treatment, or even see a nutritional expert or osteopath (cranial osteopathy in particular.)

Perforated ulcer is an emergency needing urgent surgery! Proly he just has an ulcer. Anyway, that leaves very little choice with the pain-relievers. He may try Tramadol tabs.
I was going to suggest he should try to find triggering factors and avoid those. For eg, something in the diet is not suitable for him and may precipitate an attack. Best is to prevent attacks rather than taking pain-relievers SOS. It becomes even more important with the ulcer problem (no choice of painrelievers). Even ulcer causing acidity & flatulence may sometimes give headache + an attack.
Good luck!

im on Migraleve which i think are good but dont always take the pain away. when i get a really bad one, with sickness and the lot i find a warm bath and laying in bed with the curtains shut, and the light off, the phone turned off and a silent house is the best solution. no always possible when you've got kids but when it gets that bad anything is worth a try.

A problem No cure as such for migraines, only alleviation . All pain killers are acidic so will affect a suspect tummy. The specific treatment is migraleve but it is still a pain killer... Long term I think the tummy problem has to be resolved , possibly an operation. so that higher dose analgesics can be tolerated to help the migraine... The vast majority of migraines are stress related so that is another area that can be looked at ... Bed, peace and quiet are the best I can suggest till tomorrow.

There is no medicine for H/A OR MIGRAINE. Not only these but for almost all painful diseases. Hence they become chronic.
Acidity, WORRY, excessive wind, cold , heat, sour food and sinusitis, constipation, intestinal inflammation;
Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy are their causes. None of them can be treated with medicine. Our 100% success in treating migraine &H/A confirms it.
Acupuncture is the best treatment for both problems.
I can treat it with naturopathy and YOG, but how can you manage pl see.
Avoid late sleeping if possible; WORRY, spicy food, sour fruits, stale bakery foods and alcohole.
Sweet foods, sweet fruits, cocoanut water, salads, milk, rice and good sleep will help you. You will have to note down what suits and what not.
But you try one herbal remedy- two drops of drumstick leaves' juice in opposite nostril if one side pains and both nostrils if full H/A will give you rescue. Betel leaf helps but it isvery strong.
If it is acute pl search a painful point 3-6 mm behind your thumb nail and press it, H/A will disappear within 30 seconds.

Inderal is used as prophylaxis but it is preferable to use Mefenamic Acid tabs whenever he feels the (aura).
Imigran is used for stablished cases

Most people no matter how much pain they are in will ever do this even though when they have got it down to one cup a day, they never experience any types of headaches ever again, but I will try to convey the answer to you and your friend. Have your friend go to the herbal store, not GNC, but a true herb store. Buy a couple of ounces of the hottest cayenne powder you can get. (chili powder) Usually around 100,000 heat units. When you get home heat up enough pure water to make a cup of warm water in a coffee cup. Add anywhere from a quarter of a teaspoon to a half teaspoon of cayenne to the water. Stir. Over the course of about twenty minutes drink it all. Sure it burns going in and it burns going out, for about 5 days until your body acclimates itself to it. But at the end of a week or so, your blood will be thin enough (to the consistency of ink) that your brain is getting all of the oxygen it needs. Hence, no more headaches. Drink plenty of pure bottled water in between times and drink a cup of the pure water/cayenne mixture three times a day. This also lowers cholseterol 50 points in three days, rebuilds the heart muscle, rebuilds the lining of the stomach, helps to prevent prostate, colon and uterine cancers. Helps the joints and ligaments by removing Calcium deposits. In other words, cayenne is natures miracle herb. Try it and use it until you are doing one teaspoon three times a day in a cup of warm pure water. When you get to the point you are doing this and not sweating, turning red or eyes not tearing up, you only have to do one cup once a week. Hope this helps.

tell him to first go to a chiropractor and get realigned. If that doesn't do it then for him to go see his usual physician. Generally physicians don't like chiropractors but chiropractors do a fantastic job. What people don't realize is that if a person has a lower back problem it can give you a migraine because the entire back is connected. Also if a person is merely super tight from stress (like maybe they worked or sat in one position to long, or pulled something during sports) a chiropractor can relieve that pressure and the migraine will go away.

Another reason for migraine would be that he needs his eyes checked. Another reason could be that he has a tooth problem. Another reason could be he has allergies (maybe alergic to new fabrics or some new smell like even something his clothes are washed with, or to a new cologne or a person's perfume he's around). No one ever needs to start with medines to halt migraines.

I don't know anything apart from Migraleve that could help for today, but if your friend could get a prescription for Immigran, that really helps. It's the only thing I've ever found that actually stops an attack, as distinct from just alleviating the symptoms. As I understand it, it stops the cycle of constriction / dilation of blood vessels in the scalp, but obviously check this with the GP.

I wish your friend luck!

As a migraine sufferer, I know that there is no cure for them. They don't even know what causes them. All you can do is treat it with medication that you take when you feel one coming on.
Having said that, your Dr. can order tests to make sure nothin else is causing them. Like hormones. They also do MRI's to see if there is anything else going on. Once these tests are negative, then simply treating the migraine is your only option at this time.

HOLLADOLLLA
Migraine headache should be controlled by not only medicine, but other program such as change in life style, avoiding known headache triggers, counseling, stress management and relaxation therapy should be simultaneously focused for achieving better results.

Two types of medicines are used for treating migraine headache. One is prophylactic medication, in which medicines are taken everyday to reduce the severity and frequency and the other is abortive, in which medicine is given only if headache begins.

Over the painkillers should be avoided. Although these medicines may ease symptoms but continuous use of these medicines may create rebound once these drugs are stopped.
Prescribed medicines, after proper diagnosis of the medicine, may be focused for reducing inflammation and stimulating receptors for serotonin hormone in brain.
The following changes in life style may help in managing migraine headache.

Identify the triggers for headache migraine and avoid these triggers.
You should try to take regular sleep even during vacation and weekends.
You should try to take sleep in quiet and dark room.
You should start exercise under the supervision of trainer or expert.
You should learn and follow stress management techniques.
You should learn and follow relaxation technique.
Avoid tea, coffee and cola before sleep.
You should also avoid heavy food before sleep and the food that triggers migraine headache.
If you are diabetic, you should eat small amount of food more often.
