No birth control or disease prevention is 100% effective, but used properly, condoms do a pretty good job. I think your mom just doesn't want you to have sex!

Because they are not reliable unless you use them properly (a lot of people don't) and you should always use a backup method of some sort.

They're not 100% effective. It's 99 point something.
If blokes didn't think with their ***** all the time and lasses stop acting like little sluts, then it's called maturity and then the question regarding condoms will be between husband and wife as a contraception.

Because she doesnt want you to have sex. But in a way she should becareful because its the same as saying that it wont matter if you use one so unprotected sex is the same as sex with a condom..please use a condom if you have sex, regardless of what your mom says. She most likely just doesnt want you having sex.

Hello... it's me again

They are not 100% you can still get a girl pregnant. Maybe she used one and got an std or became pregnant and now she doesn't trust them. I always use both a condom and the pill. We're not ready for another baby yet.

Perhaps she is trying to have you avoid intercourse at this time. Condoms are a good form of birth control and protection against STD's if used properly. You must use them the right way though.

She is right in a way.
Condoms are stitched together like clothing except the holes are extremly smaller.
There was a study like 30 years ago that proves the aids virus was 13,000 times smaller than one of these holes.
Be carefull next time you wanna sleep with somone.

She would probably only have had one kid.

If used correctly, condoms are about 98% effective in preventing pregnancy. For typical use it is more like 82-90%.
For preventing transmission of STDs, they are about 85% effective.
There is always some risk. Birth control pills are more effective (but they don't prevent transmission of STDs).

Perhaps she's had some experience with them. Or perhaps she's using it as a scare technique for keeping you from having relations. Or perhaps she's actually read the information on the box and understands that the only true way to ensure your health and safety is abstinence and she's protecting you. At any rate, IF you are sexually active you NEED to protect yourself and the ONLY way for a man to protect himself is by using condoms. So although they aren't 100% effective or safe, they are better than getting an STD or unplanned pregnancies.
