Cola has a large amout of caffine in it. The headache is a withdrawal symptom caused by blood settling in the head due to your heart beating slower and your blood preasure dropping.
Give it three to four days and it will stop.

I have sooo been there!!
This is withdrawal from the caffiene.
you have three choices:
1. quit cold turkey. This is the rough way and it takes about three days for all the caffiene side effect to go away. Afterwards you will feel okay but the three days in between willstink big time and you'll be pretty crummy feeling.
I did this when I learned I was pregnant. Uhg!
2. Quit a little at a time. I did this by using no-doz caffiene tablets. I took one tablet the first morning. 3/4 tablet the next. Then 1/2 tablet, and the last couple of days I only took a 1/4 tablet. (Use a pill cutter - they are cheap).
This lets the caffiene level in your body taper off a little at a time and you don't get the bad headaches as severely this way.
3. Don't quit. But I really reccomend that you try to quit.
Soda in general is not good for your teeth and weight.
Cafienne is a drug. If were discovered now-a-days, it would never make the over-the-counter status that it has from historical usuage.
The reason you get a headache is because caffiene is a vaso-constrictor (It makes the artieries get smaller - this means it will increase your blood pressure as well)
When you suddenly drop the amount of caffiene in your system, the arteries will suddenly dilate which is what causes the pain you are feeling. (It often ends up pusing on a nerve --
Sometimes it is the optic nerve, which is why you end up seeing "fuzzy lights" before you get the headache. This is the same sort of mechanism that causes migraines.)
Just remember that it is temporary. The pain is pretty bad, but will go away, if you decide to go cold turkey.

You're used to a lot of caffeine (maybe sugar?) and you are addicted to it. You can't quit "cold turkey" or whatever they call it. Keep drinking coke but drink less and less every day, by a few cans. Eventually you are coke free!! [That stuff is terrible for you.] You won't have to take any painkillers.

WOW ! there are a lot of answers to this one. Just wanted to put my two cents in... Caffiene withdrawal, happens with coffee too. I've tried to quit several times because of my migraines, just couldnt get through the first 2 days. Cutting back, a can at a time is excellent advice. Good Luck, you will feel a whole lot better when it is over. Oh! Drink a lot of water, it will expedite cleansing your system of it.

I reckon you should contact the Coca Cola Scientists and ask them,' What it is that they put in the drink, that makes it so addictive ' surely addictions like that, can't be good for anyone. I am so glad I don't drink it, only ever tried it once and thought it was disgusting !!

I am a Medical Doctor, with expereience in this field. You are withdrawing from caffine, just like a heroin addict withdrawing from drugs. The best advice I can offer is this: dont go cold turkey, you have to wean youself off of this, start by halving your daily intake then every day remove a little more. E.g If you have 4 cans per day, for the next 2 days drink only 2. Then after this drink 2 but spread them out (half an half) then slowly drift off completely. Its ok to drink a glass every now and then.

caffeine withdrawal. Instead of quitting cold turkey, do it gradually. Or, substitute cold or hot tea or coffee.

Sounds to me like you have become addicted to the caffeine in coke, and are doing a kind of 'cold turkey'. I think you should persevere, because it would seem that you are addicted, and need to get off the stuff.
Scary to think that a 'soft' drink could have this kind of effect, isn't it?

Its called caffeine addiction. Just suffer through it for 1-2 days then you will feel fine. That is why I stay away from coffee/caffeine as much as possible. I hate those headaches. For me, if I keep drinking coffee then I need to drink more and more to avoid the headaches from comming on.

It is caused by caffiene withdrawl. I've experienced it myself and no painkillers don't seem to work. You just have to sort of suffer through it. They last about a week, a little less.
