Drink a glass of warm milk then close your eyes and count sheep.....works for me!Wouldn't advise you to take sleeping pills cos then you get hooked and cannot sleep without taking some.
You could also try reading, get some calming tapes or watch a movie. Here's a site that might also help you! Good Night.....

Be sure the room is dark, no caffiene after 10 a.m. that includes colas. Soft music or a really boring book dictated on tape or cd, think black, any time your mind wanders, think black ... colour, empty, black...

Listen to music. Slower types of music preferably. Play it on low until you fall asleep.
Some alarm clocks have the music setting to turn off in a hour. I am usually out by then.

if you drink caffiene during the day cutting down would help alot. The tempurature of your room also. Since you are thinking alot, write down what is on your mind, this will let you relax about it knowing that you can come back to it later. you could also read a book to get your mind off of your worries/thoughts. another thing is excersice, if you have energy that is all bottled up inside, that will help. One last thing, a warm herbal tea might also be good, there are lots of flavors. sleep tight.

try to to get too worked up before sleeping and dont listen to rock music or read exciting books hehe. its best to fall asleep in total darkness. you said you think a lot..try to finish your work before you sleep so you feel less stressed, write thoughts in a journal to "release" them or write a schedule for the next day. goodnight, happy sleeping!

I have had some experience with that problem. Sometimes Tylenol PM helps and other times meditation helps. To meditate take yourself somewhere in y our memory where you were happy. Picture yourself there now. Look around and slowly see everything. The sky and its colors, the earth, the water, just stay there and relax. I swear it does work. Meditation music also helps.

Imagine swimming slowly through an empty never ending pool with everlasting air. Water, whenever we see it, makes our heart rates and pulse go down. It relaxes the human body. Or think of the rain. Or clouds.

I know just how you feel...I have a hard time getting my brain to slow down when I try to fall asleep too! Here's a couple of tricks that have helped me. Take a deep breath through your nose & count to five slowly, hold your breath & count to five slowly & then release your breath through your mouth & count to five slowly. Repeat until you start to relax. It may sound stupid, but this actually has been the best thing I've ever tried, & trust me, I've tried a lot of things! It's really does make you concentrate on your breathing & you get sleepy. Especially if you make it a nightly ritual.
If that fails, I play "The Alphabet Game". Pick a topic...boys names, girls names, stores, articles of clothing, it doesn't matter. Then start with the letter "A" & name as many things as you can beginning with that letter. I rarely make it to the middle of the alphabet before I'm out!
Sleep well!
