When I started smoking I thought it was the cool thing. I wanted to look tough. I was 16 and stupid. I'm almost 21 now and I regret it everytime I light up a smoke. Back when I was 16 I thought that I could quit no problem. By the time I was 18 I was smoking 2 packs a day. Recently I've cut back alot. It helped living with non smokers and having to go outside in the blistering cold just to have one. So yeah I really regret smoking. Every morning I wake up and have alot of mucous in my throat. I'm constantly spitting up this nasty brownish green phlegm. It's very unattractive for a girl to be doing that. My teeth are badly stained. I can't even run 10 feet without getting out of breath. The worst part is that I want to quite but i'm so addicted.

Oh great I wasn't even thinking about it until you asked this question!!
Yes I regret smoking..I first started smoking when I was a teenager. I got married when I was young and I finally quit. I quit for three years and then I went to work at 1-800-Flowers.com. I don't know whether it was the stress of the job or sitting around watching everyone else smoke on break but it picked up the habit again about 2 or 3 years ago and am still smoking. You wanted me to honestly answer you on what made me start....stupidity, plain and simple.

Well, I am 28 and started smoking when I was 13. I was walking to school with a friend and she mentioned having a cigarette. I was a little hesitant but somewhat interested in the idea that we would "look cool" if we did. (lol)
Of course at that age I didn't know a lot about cigarettes and I wanted to fit in so I tried it. One day led to another...one cigaretter after another...15 yrs later, I am still lighting up.
It's a very unhealthy, expensive habit. If you haven't started, DON'T! I try to quit because I know how bad it is but I don't have the will power to do so. I think I am also addicted. It's also very, very hard to quit. So don't pick it up unless you already have.

I don't really regret it.. no, because I have the willpower to quit if I feel like it. I just don't want to. I like it, it relieves stress and it's a social habit. People can say all the crap they want about it. People have been smoking for a long, long time. Everyone just likes to jump on the self-righteous anti-smoking bandwagon because they think they're doing some good, or putting themselves above those who do smoke. It's bullshit.
If you regret it, then stop, but it's your decision. Don't let anyone else make it for you.

I started smoking when I was about 15, "everyone" was at the time. Yes, I regret it because it has become an expensive habit that's hard to quit. If I were to save the money I have spent on cigarettes over the years I would have a really nice house by now.

Yes - I regretted it - and I recently quit - well January as a resolution. I started as a "social smoker" and would smoke while in bars mostly. In NYC they banned places from smoking and I still smoked -outside - but smoked less. Then I decided I didn't want to smoke anymore - and I quit. I had a couple relapses in the beginning, but have been "smoke-free" for about 6 months now. I feel so much better and I'm glad I quit.
I'm not trying to make quitting sound simple by the way because it's not - I tried quitting a number of times prior and all times ended up as relapses.
Your best bet is to make an effort towards quitting - believe me - you will thank yourself for doing it!
Good luck!

Well sorry but i came to your question and i never smoked in my life. I would totally reget smoking. Smoking can take off about 10 years of your life and can kill you. It makes your lungs unhealthy and the color black! Would you want that? People who smoke think they are the coolest people on the earth but they aren't! How is it cool for people to be killing themselve? Thanks and I hope i did help a little!

i don't regret it- i still do it. i don't smoke much at all- about 3 cigarettes a week, if that. kick that up to about 3 cigarettes an hour if i'm drunk :-)
i guess what made me start is the coolness, i won't lie. i feel like jack kerouac or some mad beat poet when i'm smoking. it's easy to feel like you got somethin to say with a cigarette in your mouth.
it's more oral fixation for me than tobacco or a Nicotine rush. although that's not a bad addition.

I used to be a full time smoker and quit. I know this is crazy but I like to smoke so I only smoke on the weekends or when I have a few beers. This has been working for me for 6 years.

Of course I regret it, everytime I have a cigarette and every time I don't run a marathon, or climb stairs for that matter. And I started because all my friends smoked. If youre considering starting, why not just cut off one of your toes instead?

I recently quit after many years of smoking. I regretted it after the first couple years.
I started because I was stupid and thought it was cool. Yeah, Cancer is cool and so is smokers breath. Now that I quit I can see how nasty it was ad how bad it stunk.
But to each his/her own. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone though. I am much healthier now that I quit and it will take years and years to clear the crud out of my lungs.

I was one of the kids who started to be "cool". I started in like.. 6th grade maybe 7th.
I regret it because I know it could make me really sick, and it costs so much! But now it's like a total habit, if I;m not smoking, I need to be doing something else to fill that void. I like to smoke, and I wish it wasn't bad for you - then Id never quit.
My husband and I are both currently trying to quit.
I haven't had a smoke all day!
