If she is really your friend, then you wont be hurting her feelings, you would be helping her.
You didn't specifically say what area caused the stink, so maybe you can share some personal hygiene tips with her.
Assure her that you are her friend, and you have to tell her because this is what friends do. By not telling her, you are being a horrible friend!

If your a real friend you would tell her! I know, it's not a nice thing to say and i bet she will feel hurt but to help her and to help you as well as well as everybody else then i think you should. But say it in the nicest way possible. Say ''Listen i need to tell you something since your such a good friend and mean so much to me... I'm only telling you this because i care and i feel i should say since friends are there for each other so please don't feel bad!.. But you have an odor problem (or whatever she smells of) tell her in a nice way and keep reminding her she's a great friend...... i was in the exact same position as you!! and i told my friend about it and she agreed and tried to do something about it. Now we are all happy lol and so is the class!

Do you know her family - could you talk to her mum about it? Only if shes a nice mum - but she should have taught her how to wash.
Or if its underarms tell her you feel so much fresher now you've learned to shave and you've found a really nice deodorant... Or you've bought one and your mum bought one, shame to waste it... or you're allergic to it, shame to waste it...

i had this problem with my mate this is what i done every now and then get them a joking hint or when your talking give a Little hint soon enough they will get the idea my mate was fine with it when he figured out and now he don't smell

give her a gift of pretty smelling body set, a small one she an put in her back pack or purse. Make a big deal about it ..like I found this awsome scent..name someone famous..like paris hilton wears it..or it drives guys crazy.

offer her some deoderant in pe. or spray yourself and ask her if she wants some.
or just tell her.
do it in a nice way just you and her so no-one else hears.
if you are friends with her then its best to do it like that. not infront of anyone as she will get a bit upset and say its because you care for her.

Tell her that she stinks (Don't make it sound mean, make it sound caring or something)... Seriously, you'll have to tell her the truth, or else she'll get hurt by somebody later on... Don't be afraid to tell the truth, your friend will know that you're looking after her and just helping. Just offer some suggestion like deoderent, purfume, take a shower, brush her teeth, chug on some listerine (not literally), whatever. Don't make the same mistake that I did and not tell your friend, if you tell your friend too late, they will later find out, and she might get mad at you and would say "Why didn't you tell me so?".
If you just give her a deoderent or something out of a blue, your friend will probably think it's an insult...

You definatley need to be cruel to be kind.
If she is a good friend then she will appreciate your thoughts on the subject. Just offer to help in any way you can and maybe say you have suffered and now you use whatever it is then offer to let her try what you do.

NOTHING is more embarrasing then not telling someone something like that. I am sure you have had that day where you have toilet paper stuck in your shirt and no one told u!!!! Didn't that stink??!?!? I mean really, god. Wouldn't you want someone to tell you that you stink if you did???!?! Instead you go through your days wondering why everyone is laughing at you! Pleaseeeeeeee! Just say it casully like, "What type of perfume do you use?" "Do you use deodorant, i have some that smells really good! Maybe you should use it also." You know, nice, not like, "Dude you stink! What the heck is wrong with you?"

if you were a good friend to here you would tell her, if you don't feel comfortable doing that tell either her parents or a teacher. the teacher would then either tell her or ring her parents and hopefully that would sort it out

If she is a friend then you need to tell her. Does she stink through body odor or perspiration on dirty clothes? maybe a perfume that does not agree with her body chemistry. She may feel embarrassed but that is better than going around every one else smelling.

By "stinks" I assume you mean BO? I had a friend at school with a major BO problem but I could talk to him and I got him some Mitchum roll-ondeodorant - cured virually overnight! If you don't want to risk confrontation, try mailing her some along with some nice, classy shower gel and one of those puff things you use it with anonymously - maybe you and some other frinds could chip in together?

Go buy a bar of soap, some bath products, and some perfume, wrap it all up in a wash cloth and then deliver it to her with a note that says "I love you, but you stink like ****!" "Please wash"

Not a pleasant idea, either dealing with the odor or figuring out how to tell her.
Here is one idea, to help without confronting. Buy some nice smelling body wash, and use some or pour a small amount out. Then, tell her you tried this new product but it irritated your skin and wondered if she would like it.
