It could be you have a sex addiction. Any type of addiction is a disease. Usually addiction cannot be remedied by any drugs but by therapy and a change of lifestyle.

i tcould be nothing, like they're saying, puberty, just hormones.. but bi polar is linked to it.. if you are in a manic episode. but it doesn't mean you are bi polar either.. that's just something that tends to go along with it.

If you are past the age of being a teenager, then it is a mental illness. A lot of manic people stay on this high desire for sex. I am not sure what the proper word to describe it isl.

It's not a sign of a mental illness simply to have a 'permanently high sex drive.' If having a permanently high sex drive is causing you significant distress, however, then this may cause mental health issues such as depression and anxiety.
If you have a suitable outlet for a permanently high sex drive, such as a partner with a similar level of sex drive, then this would be ideal. Under such circumstances a high sex drive would actually be a positive endowment. Where your partner has a significantly lower sex drive however, this could cause problems. But it still wouldn't be a mental illness-just a case of mis-matched sex drives, which is a significant source of relationship stress.
As for whether there is any medication to reduce sex drive...my Grandfather was a WW2 medical officer in the British Army and often used to recount how the British Army would put bromide into the troop's tea to control their sex drives. Apparently this appeared to work, though not sure of the dose. I am NOT recommending that you take bromide, and instead suggest you consult your GP if you feel your distress is such that you need something to control your sex drive.
All the best, hope these thoughts help.

DOES IT GET IN THE WAY OF WHAT YOU NEED TO DO IN YOUR DAY? Does it depress you? Does it make you feel like this is the only thing you want for the day. I need to know more to answer this question.
Talk to your doctor for now

It can be, depending on WHY you have such a high sex drive. If you have one because you are schizophrenic, or have frontal lobe damage, then yes.

I don't think its an illness but other may see it as. Its called being a nympho. and the sex drive is controlled by the libido which is the same part of the brain that controls hunger and cravings. SOme people are hungry and some are horny! lol

yes, of course.
There are levels, normal ones and ones that require treatment.
There are several treatments, I believe drug therapy may be one but I'm sure couseling is another. Talk to your doctor, that is exactly what he/she is for.

Its called Testosterone (im guessing your a guy) unless you take a hormonal suppressant. I do not believe there is anything you can do. Some people have suggested masturbation, that is only a temporary cure someone with a high sex drive will be jerking off all day. My only suggestion would be to get into sports or something else to help use up some of your energy, ie running. That is the only thing that helped me through puberty.

No it's probably just the age you are at, and some people just have a higher sex drive than others.
People used to say that there was a thing called sex addiction, but recent studies have found that to be false - it's just a high sex drive.

Anything in moderation is ok, anything to the excess is abnormal... but what's normal? A younger person will have a significantly greater sex drive than an older person... that's normal for them.
And it's not a mental illness.
There's no pill designed to specifically decrease sex drive - there's no market for it... but decreased sex drive is a side effect of a number of prescription drugs - which you should never take unless prescribed by a physician for their intended purpose.

No, unless it become a sexual addiction.
There are drugs which can be prescribed to reduce the sex drive. In fact, other medications used for other problems have side effects of a low sex drive.

Hypersexuality is sometimes a symptom of manic depression (aka bipolar syndrome) but it's normally accompanied by at least a few other symptoms of poor decision-making and a lack of concern for negative consequences. Anti-depressants often kill the sex drive, but make you "high" in other ways if you're bipolar.
