There will be side-effects :
e.g; greater risk of cardiovascular disease, reduced levels of Testosterone in women is predictive of height loss, which may occur as a result of reduced bone density and increased bladder function problems, such as incontinence.
And as for a pregnant woman looking fat(unappealing) i think you're opinion will differ with alot of people who find is a very beautiful stage of life.

You would always like to do something big. But before you do some "for what ever reason", think whether it is really worth it. B'cos once anything is done it can never be undone.
People dont cut their thumb off if it is sore.
Ur 18 once u cross this age, the first thing u'll find is this will be the last problem u would ever have to worry about.
Free dom always comes with responsibility.
Hysterectomy was done to my aunt as a last resort when she developed some broblems . She had no choice but to remove it, but, she was ~48 and had 2 children and a grandchild when it was done.

no doctor will give you a hysterectomy if it isn't medically needed like cancer , and your to young ( I know that's what old people tell young people ! ) to know for sure that you don't want any kids trust me , your feelings change with the different things you encounter in life . Now after you get a hysterectomy it will completely change who you are mood swings even extrem sexual changes alot of women don't want to be touched they loose the urge and that's a lot of young women I've known , then with you hormones are so out of wack with hot flashes AND " Facial Hair " having a period isn't all that bad trust me!!!!!!!! read up on it !!!

any doctor will advice agaisnt that, unless he /she finds a valid reason to terminate your reproductive organs, i believe every woman hates being on her cycle, but the blood needs to come out, once a month, whether you want kids or not. there's a new birth control pill out, where your body only has periods four time a year, ask your gyn.

There are far easier ways to stop your period - the early menopause this would induce would be no more pleasant (not to mention that, like those above said, you would have a very difficult time finding a doctor who would perform the procedure). Talk to your gynecologist.
Even those aiming for permanent pregnancy prevention go for "tubes tying", not hysterectomy, due to the changing hormones involved.

Hello,
Many of the other responders to your question have already given you the most important and obvious responses to your surface question. No reasonable physician will agree to such an invasive and potentially life threatening surgery (and the fact that it's common does NOT eliminate the surgical or post-surgical risks) without a real medical basis for doing it. Many women do not enjoy having menstrual periods, and many women become very physically and/or emotionally stressed by their periods. However, that in and of itself, is NOT an adequate reason to remove your ovaries and uterus. At age 18, neither you nor your body has finished its development. Since hormones play an important part in growth and development, stopping their production and action at your age is unwise and possibly could have a negative impact on your development.
I picked up something I feel is VERY important in your supplemental information which I believe might be the real underlying issue in your question. You mention that becoming pregnant only makes you fat and who would want to have a child by that method. I pick up a strong sense of fear in that statement. I'm not sure that your menstrual discomfort is the primary reason you want a hysterectomy; I strongly suspect that you have a great deal of fear either of becoming pregnant, of becoming overweight, or of physical intimacy. By any chance do you have an eating disorder? Or a strong problem with your self-image? Any history of physical, sexual and/or emotional abuse? Do you struggle with depression or excessive anxiety? Any or all of these issues could cause you to have the stated fear and worry you express. And, I have to tell you, having a hysterectomy will NOT help you resolve issues of self-esteem, self-image, healthy body image, fear of becoming obese, NOR will it distance you from emotional involvement (whether positive or negative), physical or emotional intimacy, or relationships with others.
I would strongly encourage you to speak with your primary health care provider, discuss with him or her your worries and concerns, and listen carefully to their suggestions and advice. It's also quite possible you might benefit from a counseling evaluation from a trained therapist (psychiatrist or other provider) to help you with what I suspect may be the underlying reasons for your aversion and your pain. Good luck to you

your only 18. your whole life is ahead of you. you don't get a hysterectomy. you would just have your tubes tied. what if you meet a man that wants kids what about him. then he can't have kids, too. you would have t tell what you did at 18. or would you not let him know at all. that would be awful to do to your friend; you would do something that is bad to both of you and god. he made us like we are. also there are good items to prevent becoming p.g. i don't think you can get a hysterectomy or tubes tied any way because you have no problems like like cancer or lots of infections. please talk to someone mother friend minister.

Number one, you won't be able to get one unless there is something wrong medically. Do you never want to have children? Yes , periods suck, go on that birth control that you only have few periods a year.

a good dr with a head on his shoulders probably wont touch you with a ten foot pole. I know right now you say you dont want kids but i did too at that age and then when I was 23 all i wanted was kids. I understand your 18 and you really truely feel you know what you want and dont want, but I promise you honey, as you grow that will change. Periods are a part of every young womans life, find a way to deal with it. I really dont think any dr will perform a hysterectomy on you at such a young age only cause you hate having a period.

Well you won't be abe to have kids. The average onset age of menopause in those who underwent hysterectomy is 3.7 years earlier than average
When the ovaries are also removed, blood estrogen levels fall, removing the protective effects of estrogen on the cardiovascular and skeletal systems.
When only the uterus is removed there is a three times greater risk of cardiovascular disease. If the ovaries are removed the risk is seven times greater. decrease in bone density and increased risk of bone fractures are associated with hysterectomies.
Some women find their natural lubrication during sexual arousal is also reduced or eliminated. Those who experience uterine orgasm will not experience it if the uterus is removed.

seasonique and seasonal are the pills where you got your period only 4 times a year. my doctor actually recommends them. 4 time a year compared to 12 is a huge difference and they are not any more heavier.

There is a birth control now called seasonale- if all you want is to avoid periods, it makes you have only four a year. I think there's one that let's you have just one a year, but I don't know what it's called... Unless you're Catholic or something, it's much less risky than having irreversible surgery.
Eighteen's a very young age still... you may eventually want children, even if you don't think you do now.

Are you even serious? We get our periods for a reason. If you dont want them, then take a pill that will limit them. Its ridiculous to even want to get rid of it at your age.

She's right, there isn't an ethical doctor that will perform that procedure w/out a physical need, and especially at your age. Besides, don't you think you would want to have kids someday?

Going against what your body naturally does (when there isn't a medical diagnosis given to where the doctor has to do this) will always have effects on your body. If your periods are miserable (excessive pain, excessive bleeding, etc.) then your doctor needs to know. There may be something wrong that could be diagnosed with a few tests. There are a lot of things that can help you out with general aggrivations and keep you healthy at the same time. If you were to find a doctor willing to go through performing the surgery without a medical diagnosis/emergency, trust me, you don't want to go to that doctor.

nobody likes having their period lol... but you will not find a surgeon who will do that on an 18 year old.. when you have that it sends you into automatic menopause and thats worse than having your period.. plus you cannot ever reverse this surgery so the idea of ever having children should also be taken into consideration.. you should go on birth control to help you have easier periods..

A doctor wont even think about giving you a hysterectomy unless it was medically necessary so you might as well think of your other options.

Do you realize that a hysterectomy is irreversible and means you will never be able to have kids? It also means you'll go through the hormonal changes that women go through in menopause and you'll have to take supplements (worse than getting your period) to control hormones. If you have an underlying medical condition that requires a hysterectomy, then go for it. Otherwise, it's an extreme condition for something easily controlled by birth control pills.

If the only reason you want a hysterectomy if because you hate to bleed 5-7 days a month, then please don't do it. At your age or any age for that matter, the only one who can medically agree with a harmful condition that would require that is a medical doctor. If you are in abnormally severe pain, bleeding excessively, and passing large clots, then that may be an option for you. But most physicians will try and save your ovaries and only give you a partial hysterectomy. Do you want children? Well please think everything thru because the road you wish to take is permanently. You may have to take hormone replacements and it can alter your mood. Pray about your decision before you fully make it. God Bless!!!

You have to have some SERIOUS medical issues before a doctor will even consider giving youa hysterectomy at the age of 18. Heck, a friend of mine had trouble talking her doctor into giving her one WITH some medical problems at the age of 26 until after she had 2 kids.

I hate periods too, but how do you know you don't want to have kids? You might think so NOW, but THINGS CHANGE. Even if you're gay.
I doubt you'd find a doctor who'd give you one, unless you have other problems. Instead get on the pill where you only have 3-4 periods a year. Ob/gyn isn't my specialty, so you'd have to ask a doctor about any bad things it could do to your body. I know it can do a lot psychologically, but I'm not sure about physically.
Think long and hard if you DO find a doctor who'd do it. You don't want to regret it. There are prescription pills for horrible cramps........Bless you. Lynn :)

Unless there is a medical reason for it you will find it next to impossible to find a surgeon to do a hysterectomy on an 18 year old. Why don't you ask your OB/GYN for a birth control pill that will limit your periods to 4 a year. I forget the name but he will know what I'm talking about.

This procedure does not cause extreme weight gain however it can increase your appetite.
If there is nothing physically wrong with your reproductive system you will have a very hard time locating a physician willing to do such a radical & irreverable operation.
There are alternatives such as injections which can decrease the frequency of mentrual periods. There is even a pill for that these days... & neither of these options will leave you with a scar that will be a contant reminder for the remainder of your life.
