I find the most effective method is to pick the little b******s out whilst using a nit comb. Then massage Tea Tree Oil into her scalp and leave overnight to make sure the eggs and any remaining critters are dead.Wash the hair again and repeat the combing and picking. Its a horrible task for both of you but if you add a few drops of Tea Tree Oil to shampoo and conditioner when you wash her hair it should stay critter free. The chemical options are damaging and not very good as the bugs soon develop resistance.Good luck!

1. Shampooing the head with a lice-killing shampoo is usually the first step. lice shampoos are available over-the-counter and are as effective as prescription shampoos. Follow the directions meticulously as each shampoo has its specific directions. Do not repeat the shampoo in less than 7 days. Remember it is an insecticide and side effects are unknown so they must be used with caution. These shampoos will kill some of the lice, but perhaps not all. They will kill some eggs, but not all.
2. Getting the nits out is the challenge. This takes time, patience and persistence. And if one nit remains and hatches out, you will have a recurrence within a week or two when it matures and starts laying its own eggs. There are several styles of combs available for combing out the nits. Some work in fine hair, some in coarser hair. It may take some experimentation to find the right one. Sometimes, using a bath oil, like Avon's Skin So Soft, will work to Loosen the glue which holds the nits to the hair. There is a product called Neon Nits, which when sprayed on the hair, will highlight the nits so you can see them to then snip them out with a small scissors.
3. Olive oil. Some people have found that using olive oil during the week between the use of the lice-killing shampoos helps. The theory is that soaking the scalp and hair with olive oil, will smother the louse as it hatches out. The procedure involves applying the olive oil at bedtime, combing out the hair in the a.m., then washing out the olive oil with a dish soap. The oil makes the egg removal somewhat easier and actually makes the hair shine.
4. Clean the environment. Most of your time should be focused on the head, but there are key parts of the environment which need attention. lice are killed with heat, so drying bedding in a dryer for 20 minutes will kill lice. Vacuum the mattress, pillow, rugs, the car, couches and chairs. Such things as dolls, toys, teddy bears, and other unwashable items may be placed in large plastic garbage bags, sealed, and left at room temperature for two weeks.
5. Robicomb. This is a new discovery. A battery operated tool which is able to find live lice which cannot be seen easily. It is a small hand held tool which emits a high-pitched beeping sound. When you use it to comb through the hair, the beeping sound stops when a live louse is detected. What seems to help eradicate lice which are resistent to treatment is to wash the hair with a regular shampoo and use a conditioner every night, then use the robicomb when hair is dry (i.e., in a.m.). If you are having trouble getting rid of lice, this can be extremely helpful.

wash her hair then put loads of conditioner on it then use a nit comb till no more lice come out ,do this every day for about 10 days , is a bit of an effort but the lice are immune to the lotions ,try adding a bit of Tea Tree Oil when washing to stop her from catching them again

A very difficult problem as the risk of re-infestation from schoolmates is very likely. Cut hair as short as looks good...the shorter the better. Apply Kwell....OTC drug....another but less effective method is to apply olive or other vegetable oil to the hair and leave it on for 15 minutes or longer, then shampoo it off, repeat in a few days...it is messy but will do the job. Also you can use a fine toothed comb to further assist.

Hi dont go to the chemist and get some chemical product to put on there hair has it has lots of side effects and can effect your childs health even the ones that are advertised on tv they say there safe but we cant be sure.. The best thing to to in get a lice comb from your chemist, the metal ones are the best as they remove the eggs as well as the lice. When your child gets home from school or in from playing out etc, wet or even wash your childs hair, the smoother i mean really go mad with the conditioner on you childs hair, dont rinse out, sit your child with there head bent over a white piece of paper and them comb through your childs hair, any eggs or nits will come out on to the paper, but you may need to keep wiping the comb as it will get full of conditioner, Keep going throught with the comb till you get no sign of eggs or lice you will be able to tell what they are. Do this every night for a week. and they should all dissapper. This is what my mam use to do with me and it work wonders she used to use chemicals that kill the eggs and lice but the lice are now immune to them not so its best just to comb them out, and is healthier for your child. Also ther hair gets a good make over with the conditioner. any conditioner is fine as i the hair needs to be soft so the eggs and lice will slide out. To keep eggs and lice down, do your childs hair once every week, if there is signs of lice or eggs, repeat for the week again, then go back to once a week and so on. Also you must do the whole family, and hair brushes. And keep her hair tied back now and again to reduce the risks. Also ive heard they dont like tea tree spray as it repels them you could try this and a shampoo and conditioner in tea tree for the time she is at school.

slowly !!!!they are persistant little buggers
you can get many lotions and potions from your local chemist or natural remidies from your local heath store but these will just kill the lice you still need to shift the eggs
set aside an hour or two depending on length of hair superglue child to chair (only joking but it would make life easier !!)cover kids hair in conditioner and comb with a very tight toothed comb section by section from root to tip not letting combed hair touch uncombed do this daily till all signs of eggs and lice have gone once gone be vigillent especially this time of year the kids are back to school and with the weather cooling kids where their hair down also check the rest of the family change bedding and stick the pillows on the line tea tree is a good natural deterant a few drops of it in the final rinse is said to be good you can also get a few shampoos etc with it now but like anything they are resistant little buggers and grow an immunity vigelence perseverience and patience is my motto or once clear just grease up your childs hair then they cant stick
best of luck

Agree with above.
Tea Tree Oil works very well, no smell and it's a natural product so your not shoving all those nasty chemicals onto your child.

My daughter had head lice a few years back, and she has really thick, long hair. Put loads of conditioner on after treating with lice treatment, and then use a lice comb to remove the eggs. The conditioner makes the hair strands slippery and aids in removing the eggs. Then if your daughter's hair is long enough, ensure you put it up into either a bun or ponytail when she goes to school, and spray hairspray all over (preferably one with Tea Tree Oil in it, as it repels head lice). Good luck, it took several treatments for me to remove the lice from my daugther's hair, but we eventually got there!

Ive heard that mayonaisse works well to drown the little buggers AND the eggs..You have to be sure to treat her bedding ,..ect..But several years ago, I was staying with my mom in law and her daughter. The daughter contracted head lice yet neither my mom in law nor I caught them..When we asked the Dr about it he told us that it was probably due to the fact that Mom and I both colored our hair..seems the beasts dont care for the chemicals..Maybe a hair color that matches her natural hair color would get rid of them. Just a thought..
Blessed Be~

There are lots of new products at the chemist.HEDRIN apparently kills them in minutes

Inform school if she got it from there about what has happened so that measures can be put in place to prevent reinfestation

I have used hedrin the new product on the market. It worked on my daughter and did kill the lice. To be sure though, I use conditioner on her hair after I wash it and comb it through with a nit comb. Unfortunately lice are rife and will probably come back but just repeat the process.

Hope this helps

Good luck

wash, condition and while conditioner is on comb through with a tooth comb, you'll have to do it every day til she is clear!
All 3 of my kids comb through their hair the second they get back from school as this is where they keep getting them, if it is a really bad case use good old fashioned Derbac lotion from the chemist. Nothing survives that stuff, its a bit smelly tho and you have to leave it on over night, but it is good.

buy a head lice medicine or tonic. You shld do this as soon as possible before the headlice creates a family in your daughter's hair. They cannot be easily rmoved unless you apply the head lice medicine.....

I found the best way was to wash the hair, then put loads of conditioner onto it and comb through with a lice comb. It will take a while but it gets out all the live lice.

Good luck

You can find the proper shampoo at any drug store, then just follow instructions and comb them out. Please do not shave her head.

Go to your chemist and they will recommend something. I've heard Tea Tree Oil is also good for lice, it stuns the lice and you just comb them out. Use a fine comb to do it.
