yes it does mabey not 1 carton and 3days but it does give you a VERY high risk of dieing at an earlier age this is due to the tar that bulids up in your lungs and slowly stops you breathing and that fact that the Nicotine going into your system.
If you have 1 packet of fags a day your likley to die yat the age of 60-70

yes
but the moral of the story is: Don't smoke, it kills.

There is not a 1 to 1 correlation or ratio, no. In other words, no one - NO ONE - can say that smoking 1 cigarette will take 2 minutes off of you life, etc.

BUT - what this method of reporting the hazards of smoking is trying to do is quantify the effects of smoking.

It is a statistical calculation based on many, many factors including genetic predisposition to the harmful effects of smoking, how much and how long one has smoked, and even other habits and behaviors of the smoker.

So, no - there is not a hard and fast ratio. It is a statistical composite.

But one thing is very clear - smoking is dangerous to a person's health!

Chit P
Yeah. that sounds about right. cigarettes do nothign good for your health.

Masteraceman
Yes, emphysema and cancer are prevalent due to smoking as well as other environmental and lifestyle factors.

No. Only if you get cancer. Then it just stops your life in its tracks, and there's nothing you can do about it. But that's pretty common in heavy smokers. If you don't get cancer, it will just affect your lungs and respiratory system, but you won't die.

Oh come on.... Which planet do you live on? I've been smoking, and don't deny to myself for a second what they do to you. Is there a precise mathematical equation? No. Are there people who smoked all their lives and live to be 90? Yes. But the odds you're going to live a long, and most importantly, healthy life, are much much slimmer if you smoke.

yea. my grandpa had a heart attack at age 40 because of smoking. he kept smoking and, he was gone before i ever got to see him. A few other family memebers on my dads side also died from them. Dont smoke. there are better ways to die.

yes SMOKING KILLS it also contributes to heart disease, lung diseases, impotency problems, circulation problems so the more you smoke, the more your lungs suffer and under x-ray they look like two coal sacs. so stop if you do, i stopped 8yrs ago, i can walk better without feeling puffed, taste my meals better, i feel better when i get up in the morning, of course this is up to you, to die, or live a good quality of life, same applies to alcohol, that leads to disease and death eventually, and using drugs, the body malfunctions, it stops working, and you die. even passive smokers suffer chest infections, on a lesser severity scale to a smoker,

do you remember a person called Roy Castle, he used to play trumpets in social clubs, fullof smoke, over the years, this caused problems, then he went for tests they found a cancer, it was due to smoking, but he himself did not smoke, so they put it down to being a passive smoker breathing in all that stale smoke in the air any way it not only kills you, but those who do not smoke suffer as well.

Maybe not exactly that "1 carton = 3 days off your life" but cigarettes are very harmful to the body. They are actually much more harmful than marijuana is (many health care systems give patients some prescription marijuana for pain relief). The only reason it is not legalized is because it is considered a "mind altering" drug which can be dangerous.

How is anyone going to know for sure I am 75 and smoke yet I have many pals who never smoked were younger than me yet still died. This is a question that nobody can prove for certain. I am not trying to encourage anyone to smoke . It certainly cannot do you good so if this is right it must only do you harm. The only problem with stopping is that a lot of people tend to put on a lot of weight which in excess is even more dangerous than smoking.

the mathematical formulas are bull, but cigarettes will cause you a myriad of problems that will undoubtedly take time off of your life. even if you get to be "old", you will more than likely be hauling around an oxygen tank or have heart or other problems.

Neely the great
thats a generalistation, it can vary from person to person but yes ciggarettes does shorten your life in some way

*****
Yes, but not everyone is affected the same way. Some heavy smokers have lived to a ripe old age of 80+, which others have died in the 40's and 50's.
