Yes they can. It is actually a gene that makes people get cancer, so it is possible to smoke until you are very old and not have any cancer. I had a great grandmother who smoked well into her eighties, she died from Alzheimer's and complications of the sort. |

Both of my grandfathers did, lived to the ages of 88 and 89, smoking all the way, and died without getting cancer. However, I chose not to use them as role models; and I quit smoking at a much younger age, some 22 years ago. |

Yes of course someone can smoke until and old age and not get cancer - but the chances of that are very slim. Even if they weren't to get cancer there are many other diseases and health problems they will encounter. Smoking makes it harder for our blood to carry oxygen and so breathing becomes shortened, and that alone is bad enough. I don't know if anyone else agrees but I think when our grandparents and great-grandparents were smoking 100 years back, the chemicals found in the cigarettes weren't as harmful as the ones we have today. (I say as I light a cigarette) Grrrrrrrr. Smoking isn't clever. |

Yes, my great grandmother smked well into her 90's , she kept the 02 tank in the other room becaose she was afraid the cigs would blow it up. And her husband (not my great grand father) Smoked stoogies all the time- he out lived her, he seemed to get along just fine- he was even better along in his 90's when he died- which was shortly after a fall on the ice when he was on a walk. Still wouldnt take my chances with the cigs. |

its possible...but remember second hand smoke kills too, so if you are lucky enough not to die from cancer, you may have killed someone else instead ...its a slow process |

Yep. You can smoke till a hundred and never get cancer. |

It is highly unlikely, but they can. It also depends when they start. |

Ya, you'd probably die of something else before lung cancer can kill you. |

My grandfather did, but he, and others like him are few and far between when you consider how many people actually smoke. |

Smoking increases your chances of cancer and heart disease but it does not guarantee it...it depends on your genetic make up of how big of a chance there is that you will get them. You can get cancer from the first year you start smoking or you can live to be 90. It's all chance. |

It's possible. Look how long George Burns lived and he smoked cigars. Life long smokers are at high risk of emphysema or bronchitis if they don't get cancer. But anythings possible, just not likely |
|

Yes it is possible |
|

Zach |
Yes. Not to likely tho. |

Yes they can - but the odds are definately against them. the likelyood is that they will die a painful cancerous deathn but some have been known to live even past 100 and still be smoking in their grave. lol |

Absolutely! Smoking doesn't necessary kill everybody, it just increases your likelihood of getting cancer quite exorbitantly. Milton Berle smoked cigars every day and he lived to be like a 100. But don't let that be an excuse to smoke! |
|

wait!!! |
Yes, some people can...Just like some people that HAVE NEVER SMOKED AND still get cancer, go figure!!! Our bodies are all different...and sometimes it is the luck of the draw...no one's fault really, except the tobacco fault...for making people addicted to cigarettes!!! |
