I listen to New Age music. It flat-lines your alpha brain waves. Very relaxing.

Use alarm clock...
Take a hot shower in the morning or wash your face 'til you don't feel sleepy anymore.
Also, hot tea or coffee can help a lot not to feel sleepy...
Good Luck!

As someone who suffers from insomnia, there are a couple of things you can do:
1) eat something "heavy" like spaghetti or oatmeal
2) take a hot bath
3) take 1/2 a sleeping pill (as most are designed for 8 hours)
4) lie back down and take very, very deep breaths
5) give yourself an O, as this releases the tension and stress
6) i would not recommend a workout, as for most this keeps them awake
7) read something boring
8) do not watch tv and do not use the computer
9) clean or straighten for 30 minutes
10) listen to relaxing music such as classical or light jazz
11) warm milk

Nyquil works very well. Read a book if you are into it, and do it lying in bed.

Know the feeling. I have to be up early and don't feel like going to sleep. I hate taking stuff because I don't get proper rest and wake up groggy. Wish I knew what to do.

Well I am sitting here and have to get up early and can't sleep either. I am not sleepy anyway and I take meds to help me sleep..........but they are antihistamines. There isn't too much you can do right now, except try reading some like reading or crossword puzzles or something to calm you. Maybe some warm milk. I know why I can't sleep.......family problems and I am ill too and took a long nap. While it's frustrating, one night won't hurt, but it can through your whole schedule off. What makes you tired? If you know that....then do it. Are you thinking about too many things right now? That happens to me and I pray to the Lord to give me rest and He usually does. This is such a hectic time with the holidays fast approaching. So much to do......so little time. It can keep you up and if you are in college or school.....so can finals. Avoid caffeine and if you have some Benadryl..that should be safe to take. I don't advocate sleeping pills because you can become dependent on them,. Sweet dreams...I hope for us both!

Well first off, get off your computer. It's a proven fact that watching tv, sitting at the computer or playing video games causes you to be even more awake than you were before. Try reading, doing some sort of hobby such as knitting, painting, writing, drawing or whatever suits your fancy. Make yourself a cup of warm herbal tea with honey in it, but make sure it doesn't have caffeine and if all else fails do what i do and just stare at the ceiling or the back of your eyelids until sleep finally takes over. Sometimes turning on the radio to classical music will help me as well. Good luck, from an insomniac.

Benadryl might be something you have at hand now, although an antihistamine, one of the sideeffects is drowsiness. That is all the over the counter sleeping pills are, like Tylenol pm. For the future you might want to get some Melatonin. You can find it in the healthfood section in most supermarkets. You can take up to 3 mg of it. Does pretty good for me and no drowsiness in the morning.

If this is a recurring situation, you might want to see your doctor and get some sleeping pills until you get your sleep back on track. Other things that help are getting good exercise, do some yoga, avoid caffeine intake in the evening.

I lay completely still with any sign of light off and I keep my eyes closed and think about things...eventually I drift off to sleep (fairly quickly, actually).

yea if you planned early enough Tylenol pm would have done the trick but nowyou only have 5 hours before the alarm. i'd take half of one maybe? or what ever PM meds you have. some people probably think thats wrong and all but it works fine.
also you could turn the lights off get in bed and listen to a relaxing cd or something.

i normally just stay up.. but i have sleep issues to begin with..
maybe try laying down and concentrating on your breathing.. keeping a steady inhale and exhale..
warm milk helps your brain produce serotonin.. which is the chemical that makes you tired..
maybe some relaxing music.. or some Chamomile tea..
hope this helps..

Pills might make you punchy in the morning. What's best is to lie down anyways and concentrate on your breathing. Nothing else. Just think of air coming in and going out. Eventually, you'll fall asleep. Or at least you'll be rested. Good luck!
