My eyes never water.
I reckon it's something to do with breathing the fumes in through your nose, try breathing through your mouth.

I don't get that when I peel onions, I only get it when I start chopping up the onions. This is what I do: run warm water over the hands for a few seconds then start chopping. If it starts to hurt again the run warm water over the hands again for a few seconds.
And it does make a big difference! Good luck, I hope you cook something really nice!

From the point you start peeling the Onion, keep your mouth closed. Other suggestions are to put the Onion in the freezer for about 15 minutes before chopping and rinse your hands and the knife under REALLY cold water before chopping.

Practice a technique that reduces the amount of acid released as you chop it. Then do it quickly and watch your fingers!
I top and tail, peel and halve them, then put several cuts (depending on how thin you want it chopped) about 90% of the way accross each half then slice accross my previous cuts.
I used to work in a restaurant and needed to do 20ish at a time - helluva learning curve but now I can do it so fast I hardly every start crying.

Sounds weird, but this works. Without biting, put the sulphur end of a wooden match in your mouth.

Hi, threason you cry when cutting onions is because of a chemical reaction caused by the knife reacting to the Onion itself.
The best way to prevent crying is to cut the onions under running water, avoiding any spray from reaching your eyes.
I hope this helps.

Keep them in the fridge and run them under cold water at regular intervals as you prepare them. Make sure you wash your hands before touching your eyes. Also, I think I once saw a fan which clipped on to your chopping board so you could try placing a fan near you to blow the fumes away.
Hope it helps.

Peel them in a shallow bowl of water. It works everytime for me.
Also the white onions don't make me have that reaction.

Sometimes it helps to wet them first or do it under running water. But this doesn't always work.
2 ways that always work are :
1. Use a blender
2 Give them to your partner to do
