If you had to ask me to pick one--I'd say smoking first (I'm assuming this is Cigarettes), as long as your drinking does not INCREASE at the same time. First reason being its involvement with Nicotinic Acetylcholine, as opposed to the Gaba dysregulation seen with drinking. You should make it a 100% complete cessation and reaffirm yourself never to go back, however. If you are worried about your liver in the meantime, pick up some Milk Thistle from your local Wal-Mart or nutrition store, and consider getting on a low-dose St. John's Wort/Omega-3/Green Tea (extract) regimen to keep your neurotransmitters in check while your body recovers from the smoking.
Honestly, though, you should ask yourself why "both is too much" and try to work with a doctor or a licensed practitioner in nutritionally helping you rebalance yourself in accordance to quitting both at the same time. You would be amazed at how easily even the biggest addicts to these substances recover with the proper neurotransmitter support! (This means amino acid supplementation, or over-the-counter herbal support.)

Smoking presents a more immediate health concern. Quit smoking first, and eventually you can learn to quit drinking. Alcohol can damage your liver eventually, but cigarrettes are basically poison. I should know, I smoked for 10 years .. but I have successfully quit, and have drastically cut down on my drinking as well

My opinion...stop smoking, and only drink occasionally You have to think about your health no matter what age you are. That's MOST important.

Depends if you are problem-drinking. If you drink too much, as in quite a bit more than average, then I'd say quit drinking. Otherwise smoking, but don't use it as an excuse to start drinking more. Same for smoking if you quit drinking.

I'd say drinking because that affects your life more than smoking (if were talking about cigarettes). You liver is easier to corrode than your lungs ( i think, i dont really know) and once you are safely off the booze in a couple of years you can begin to wean of of the cigarettes which will corrode your lungs eventually. But i think trying them both at the same time is just setting up for failure. While trying to quit drinking try to find something positive to addict yourself to.

Drinking first, it seems the hardest, I mean if you take cigarettes for years when you quit your body will slowly heal itself, but drinking has permanent damage and it's a big struggle, where there's lots of medication for cigarettes quitting patches and so on. Slowly ween yourself because I doubt you can do it cold turkey, that would be unbearable.

smoking. smoking damages your lungs. Lung illness is harder to cure than complications with the stomach. But I'm not saying that you should not stop drinking. Just quit smoking first.

Quit smoking. (I'll pass on this site to you... I used it when I quit. Take the time to check it out http://www.quitnet.com )
As for the drinking, if your personality changes when you drink, you do things you regret, it effects relationships or work, or you get behind the wheel of a car... its time to quit that too. Wasting your life away won't be worth it. Call Alcoholics Anonymous (they are in your local phone book).

I would quit smoking. It's worse for you than drinking. As long as you don't over drink. Plus, smoking doesn't do anything for you. Drinking makes you feel great. Oh wait, are you talking about "smoking"? Not cigarettes? Oh well, then I guess that would do something for you. But drinking is still better. So I would quit smoking. Good luck!

Look at it this way= Which hurts others around you? Smoking= second hand smoke, BUT you can smoke when you are away from others. If you want to live longer, then i suggest that you quit smoking. Drinking=Its fine as long as its in moderation, but if you like, go to bars, and drive back home, then sure, you need to quit the drinking.
