Could be one or the other. The only way to know is to see a doctor or try another thermometer. If you usually are closer to 98 then you should see a doctor immediately.

Everyone's body has a different normal running temp. 96.3 is too far out of whack, however. Your thermometer could be in error.

normal temperature is 98.4 . Nothing wrong with you. Anyway if it is worrying you keep a track of your temperature over a period of time. And if you are not feeling sick - better advice would be not to check your temperature at all!!

would surely try another therm, if not then try to wrap yourself in a thick blanket for a few hours and drink some soup, try these and then check temp again.

Hi! I know you've had a lot of answers, but I thought I'd throw my bit in here. "Normal" temps are 98.6. It's ok to be off a little bit, but your reading does seem a little low. Some tips: it may be due to how you are taking your temp. Wait 15 minutes after eating or drinking anything before taking it orally. Try breathing through your nose only before taking it. Be sure it is all the way under your tongue off to the side (by one of those big veins under your tongue). If it isn't electronic (it won't beep when it's done) then leave it under your tongue for a full 2 minutes. Oral temperatures are usually slightly lower than temps taken other ways (like rectally). If you are really concerned, see your doctor, especially if you are not feeling well.

Hmmmmmmmm......maybe you are going to ovulate within the next few days. Most of the time, a womans temp will drop slightly and them spike around 98.8 when she is ovulating. It is probably nothing to worry about. Merry CHRISTmas.

That is probably normal for you. 98.6 is the so called average temp but this is not necessary so for some people.

There is nothing wrong with your temperature, this is not a fever, to be a fever you would have to be 99 degress or higher. Even then, unless you were over 101 degress it would be mild and no reason for concern. You may not have taken your temperature properly though, b/c you are actually reading colder than you should be. Try again, and if you get the same reading this time perhaps start looking for a new thermometer. Merry Christmas.

It's called subnormal. Sometimes when your sick you can run a subnormal temperature. However, some people, like me, run a subnormal temp standardly. When I had pneumonia it was very subnormal. However, normal for me is often 97.8. So I think you have to know whether your feeling fine or sick and go from there. You probably know what your usual temp runs. You can try another thermometer just to compare one to the other. Maybe that helps I hope. Have a nice day.

Very few people have a body temperature of exactly 98.6 degrees. Most people are within a couple of degrees of normal. It's nothing to be concerned about.

Could be the thermometer.....double check using someone else.
Also, it is a sign of an underactive Thyroid. Do you have symptoms like feel cold all the time? cold hands or feet? gaining weight? dry Skin? Dry thinning hair? constipation? If so, get a morning Thyroid test for TSH, Free T4, and Free T3. An afternoon test is no good. Also, find out the number results of these tests. Many labs are going by outdated ranges. Chances are if your TSH is over 3.0, you have a Thyroid problem.

That's perfectly normal. Probably half of all people run a normal couple tenths low or high. What you would need to do is check it over a period of time and see what is normal for you. That's about where mine runs all the time.
