You can use: warm milk (not hot); a hot bath; relaxing sound ( like ocean waves or a rain storm). I also like to use a Lavender bath oil or shower gel. ( like Johnson's & Johnson's Baby Bath gel). Lavender has a calming effect on the body and can help it relax.
If these don't work, try Melatonin (you can buy in any vitamin section at a Walmart). Your brain makes Melatonin to regulate you sleep cycle, so it's not to be use all the time. Try if for a week, and you sleep cycle should correct itself.
You might also look into what may be keeping you up: stress, staying on the comuter, studing in bed (that one was hard for me to break, my brain says "it's time to study when I go to bed, so I didn't fall alseep)

something that has always worked for me, lay down , close your eyes & try to clear your mind of everything, & then count backwards from 100 slowly in your head. I usually don't even make it to 50 before I am asleep. Hope this helps!

Often insomnia is caused by stress or too much energy. I would tryt getting into more of a calmer mood before you snooze. Maybe listen to classical music, or something soft of your liking. Idk if you like rock but Dashboard Confessional always puts me to sleep. They recently came out with an album, The Shade of Poison Trees, its quite soothing.
If that doesn't help try LUNESTA, I've heard good things from it, talk to your doctor. I hope I've helped. (=

I would first figure out why you can't sleep. If you are upset about something that happened earlier in your day, I would write about it in a journal. If it's just that you can't sleep, soft music or reading might help. Good night... :)

There are sleeping pills, obviously, but there are also some teas out there. One that has worked well for me is one called "sleepy time" Or you can get over the counter Melatonin...it works well too.

Stay away from your bed! Seriously. I am an insomniac, and I stay out of the bedroom til I'm sleepy. I read & watch movies. I also take Benadryl some nights. Its the same thing as over the counter sleeping pill, and it helps my allergies, too. I have also noticed that drinking hot chocolate and listening to slow, soothing music helps.

By being on the computer, your stimulating you brain- causing you to stay up even longer.
Electronics keep your brain awake. Before going to bed you should never watch tv, you should listen to soothing music or read a book. A glass of milk helps also, or water. So your first step is getting off the computer!
