It may be a combination of a virus and the bends, as it were. I would visit a doctor to follow up, but your aggressive quitting is going to have an effect on your body. It's just throwing off the addiction, so you feel awful. You may also be sick, so go to the doctor.

You have a VIRUS! Take some good cold medicine and take good care of yourself. The symptoms of the cold are actually made worse by your smoking, and I doubt that you really WANT to smoke with the virus in your system, so USE IT and you'll be very glad to quit smoking on Tuesday. It's NOT that you ARE QUITTING that has you feeling this way ... it's simply that you have caught a virus and that virus is what is making you feel ill.

Any green flim mucus means you have an infection. I would go ahead and quit smoking all together and ride out the infection. Your body has been given so much junk for so long, it starts craving it. Turn it around and start eating healthy to have more energy. You may stay sick longer, but once you get well you will feel amazing!

When I quit smoking, I hurt all over.
All the things in ciggarettes were not in my body anymore to stop the pain and to keep me awake and to take away my appitite. It lasted for months until I started taking herbal remedies and doing exercises. I feel better now. For about 2 years after I quit, I was getting sinus infections like every month and I developed allergies to smoke and my dog. That is finally undercontrol now also.
It sounds like you may have a cold and a sinus infection. Green usually means bacterial infection. So go see your doctor.

it sounds like you might have a cold on top of Nicotine withdrawl. if you're sick, count it as a blessing. I think that's the best time to quit because you're feeling too crappy to even want to smoke. keep your fingers crossed to get a full blown flu or something because by the time you're well, you'll have come a long way in kicking the cravings! i know that sounds really messed up, but it's true for me...good luck!

The coughing up stuff is your lungs healing.... I do that everytime I start to quit.... so look at the more the better!! Find someway to busy yourself and something tiring to do before bed.... like walk, walk, walk!!!!
Headaches are something else I deal with when trying to quit too..... your body is so used to the Nicotine it WAAAANNNTTTSSS it!
But don't give in. Think over and over about how DANGEROUS and DIRTY smoking is, and just keep on going! Good luck! I have heard the first 14 days are the worst.... heard other things too, but if you keep telling yourself that, then perhaps you'll more feel you're almost in the clear? And maybe for you it will be true!
GOOD LUCK! DON'T GIVE UP!
You are stronger than that cigarette - stronger!!!!

hey , well done on you kind of quitting smoking and dont worry its all normal and i believe if you know why it happens it doesnt seem that bad. first of all while smoking your brain produces a chemical to give you that kind of boost feeling. so when smoking your body is used to having it high, so you smoke more to get that feeling again.
now the sleeping problem - try a bath with Lavender and rose water, a hot drink like hot chocalte and no coffee. also try to do exercise before sleeping by an hour. headache and runny nose and feeling like crap 24/7 is only withdrawl syptoms. so dont worry its all natural and good luck and let me know how it goes. hope this info is good engouh for you

This is normal, you are suffering Nicotine withdrawal. You should consider trying some nicotine Gum or a patch to help with the symptoms (but its bad to smoke and use a patch).
Keep it up! You've come too far to give up now.

STOP. NOW. Never mind Tuesday.STOP NOW.
All these symptoms are normal but it is possible that you may have a cold as well.Have you tried Nicotine patches some people find them helpful ( see your doctor. he will encourage you-most doctors hate smokers these days).
Whatever you do don't go back to smoking.
ITS A KILLER and your friends will think more of you because your friends will STINK if smoke around them.
IT'S A STINKING HABIT.
I don't know your age but I frequent the local pub and the difference the smoking ban has made is wonderful. I am an ex smoker myself. Starting was the worst thing I ever did in my life and stopping was definately the best.

Keep on going! Smoking is a killer. It killed my grandad, and i promise you, the pain that your feeling now is nothing compared to the pain that other people would suffer if you were to die from it. Smoking will take years off your life. I urge you to keep strong! Try alternative techniques to try and stop smoking. Keep your self busy, and find ways of keeping your energy levels up. Ask you doctor for help
Goodluck, and godbless!

Hello.
I think that is wise of you to stop smoking.
Quiting smoking will save your life for sure but I don't think that you should cut of cigarettes completely in one day.
You should do it gradually and remember that your body still regular to have high levels of nicotinee.
Any drastic decrease of nicotin levels can cause you many unpleasant things such as headaches, etc..
Try to smoke less cigarettes in every week give your body the opportunity to adjust this drastic change.
Hope I've helped you

I thought you had to quit completely for all the cough and cold stuff happens.
You probably have just got a cold.
How many were you smoking a day? Your doing good for cutting down to five a day.
I am trying to quit but im not having any luck. I think this illness you have got isnt anything to do with cutting out the cigarettes.
I know when you stop alltogether you get a really bad cold and a sore throat.
Keep up the good work, your doing well!

It's amazing that I found this question! I just quit and it's been 10 days now since I've had a cigarette. I didn't smoke that much (about 1/2 a pack-1 pack a day depending on what I was doing, and prolly a pack when I'd go out for the night drinking). But the first few days I was coughing up stuff, and VERY irritable and cranky. I couldn't sleep, but I was tired all day, I had no energy, but it only lasted a few days. I tried to "cut down" to 10 cigs a day, and then 5, then 3... but when the weekends would come i'd blow it when I'd go out. The only way to stop is to completely quit. I think your symptoms will go away when you finally quit, and your body starts ridding itself of all the bad things cigs have done to it. The worst are the first 3 days, but drink TONS of water and your body will metabolize the chemicals faster, which means the physical withdrawal symptoms won't last as long! Depending on how much you smoke, it's could take up to 96 hours for your body to rid itself of all the toxins, but with lots of water, it could shorten it to 48 hours... I feel TONS better. I did notice some nervous energy about day 4... but working out used up my energy, and I have to tell you, it's WONDERFUL not smoking!! I don't really want one anymore, unless I'm drinking, but I figure I've made it 10 DAYS already, so now, it's not physical withdrawals its all in my head, so I can fight those cravings, they only last for about 30 secs anyway. I love not smoking, food tastes SO MUCH BETTER, water finally tastes good, I smell everything better I can run and walk and not feel like my lungs are going to collapse! I think it's the BEST thing ANYONE can do for themselves!!! You can do it! I drank coffee for energy, and started eating quaker instant oatmeal in the mornings... makes a world of a difference for energy and the oatmeal helps your digestive system so you don't feel so sluggish

Thew trouble is that the longer you smoke you 5 a day the longe the addiction will last.
Normally, if you stop the craving goes after 4-5 days.
You may still feel like one but not crave it.
My brother smoked all of his life and died at 59. he required an oxygen bottle to breath in the end. He required an autopsy and they said in the report that his lungs were totally full of black tar. Obviously the air cannot get to the parts that need to absorb it.
Its your choice but I would say cutting down is not the answer.
you would not chop off a boxer dogs tail an inch by inch.
Stop altogether now.
