Yes. I do think that you should talk to him and try to get him to smoke outside. Mention that you have been having health problems - maybe have your doctor write him an informative letter?
If he has a major problem being forced to smoke outside - maybe compromise - limit him to one room of the house only.

I gave up smoking 2 years ago, my wife still smokes. I put an extractor fan in the kitchen + a portable tv, so every so often she goes there and has a cigarette. She does this now especially since I decorated and got rid of the brown tinted wallpaper and ceilings.

I suggest you take a look at the truth about the so called 'second hand smoke' hysteria that has no real basis in fact. http://www.forces.org/evidence/files/pas-smok.htm

If you ask him he should agree.
To be fair you took him for what he was twenty years earlier.

He has done this for 20 years, and you are just now complaining about it? How bad is your chest? Does he know how you feel? You may want to talk to him about it, instead of posting your question on the internet. What would be the big problems if you asked him to smoke outside? You have more problems than his smoking in the house.

Yes, insist. Say that there will be bigger problems than him throwing a wobbly about you doing because it is now illegal to smoke in public places where other people can inhale secondary smoke.
Also, his kids may sue him in the future for any breathing complications they may develop, or even for taking up smoking, too!
If you aren't too confident, at least confine it to the kitchen with a door/window open and the kitchen door firmly shut. (This is your best bet, then when he's gotten used to that, your next move would be to get him to smoke outside.... ;-))
If he loves you and the kids, he will do it for you. If he doesn't he loves himself more.

You will have bigger problems if you let him carry on smoking indoors !! Is he that stupid that he doesn't know it will jeopardise your health ? - he sounds a really selfish husband to me. If he won't stop, find yourself a nice kind understanding bloke who doesn't smoke and will probably smell so much sweeter too. Good luck !

YES!
if he has any sense he should have done from the start.
Your health is more important than him being warm for 5mins whilst he has a ciggy. Big problems like what? he'd get annoyed? It's your health or his comfort at the end of the day. I think your health beats all.
I hope your chest improves :-)

Are you kidding me!? There should be a big problem if he doesn't.!Maybe you should be very angry and concerned that your husband who is supposed to love you, is not concerned about your lung problems and doesnt care enough if you are suffering. What a ,.'#@*/!!!! Put your foot down for your childrens health sake if not for your own and kick his BUTTS outside!

You know the answer yourself! Don`t be stupid! passive smoking causes cancer! Why did you let him smoke around your kids at all! I would kick him outside the door! My childrens lives would be more important than what he wants! There will be bigger problems when you and your kids end up in hospital for chemotherapie!

YES!!!! I am a smoker and my wife isn't (she's just nuts). I never smoke in the house since she started to cough and complain of a bad chest.
These problems can be overcome, as they did between us, by talking - if he loves you, he will accept the idea of smoking in a given place away from you (even if it means hanging out of a small window last thing at night!!).
Good luck.

My kids have asthma so no one smokes in my house. This may be a difficult rule to implement. If he truly cares for you he would not smoke near you. Hopefully he's a reasonable person that you can convince to stop poisoning you. If not, is he worth your health?

Yes your husband should stop smoking around you. If not then he is really selfish to put his smoking before you. Maybe you could get him a shed to smoke in then he wont be able to complain when its cold.

as a smoker i can understand why he might be upset at you if you asked that...
on the other hand, i have lived in my house for 11 years and have only smoked about 5 ciggies in doors...
out of RESPECT for my wife, and now 2 children, i smoke outside. (MY DECISION)
if its raining i stand in the shed.
i have an area for the butts, which i clear regularly and as far as i know i do not upset anyone with this habit.
mind you my wife still moans about my 'cologne' when i go to bed.
explain the situation to him and ask for a bit of compromise.
he is only human after all, he might even respect you for asking.
good luck.
