7 scientist are finding that the 8 hours previously pushed is too much.
Okay that last statement is nonsense because science changes its mind about health and nutrition every 3 or 4 years.
Six to Eight. You might as well get used to six or less because thats all you get in real life.

9 or 10. The average adult is supposed to get 8 every night, and teenagers need to get more because their bodies cannot go to sleep at certain times in the night. Well, I guess the basic message of this answer is that you should get as much sleep as you can get!

At least seven or eight, but some teens require more or less. "Sleep when you're tired" is a good policy.

i believe a person, regardless of age should get eight hours of sleep. When you get less sleep, you have a hard time staying focused the next day. if you find yourself feeling sleepy throughout the day, your body is telling you to get some rest! Resting is healthy.

Depends on each individual at that age I could stay active for 3 days and then just have 8 hrs to regenerate. Now I am a good bit older I have got involved in a new tablet study of volinanserin a medication for insomnia. So good luck to you as I have never slept regular for 8 hrs.

Sorry if this isn't the answer you'd like but teenagers don't generally sleep much at night. Most of the sleeping is done during the day, usually until about 1pm.

A 17 year old (or any age for that matter) should get the sleep they need. It varies by individual, so what works for me might not work for you. A couple of tests for yourself: Do you wake up before the alarm goes off? Do you ever fall asleep at school or work? Do you ever feel drowsy during the day and can't concentrate? If yes to one of these, keep going to bed earlier until it is not an issue. Don't forget, a regular exercise program will improve the quality of your sleep at night. Get into a routine of regular bed time and wake up time. Avoid caffeine after ? o'clock, like 5 hours before your bed time. Include "relaxation" time before your bed time - like reading.

Most teens need about 8½ to more than 9 hours of sleep each night. The right amount of sleep is essential for anyone who wants to do well on a test or play sports without tripping over their feet. Unfortunately, though, many teens don't get enough sleep

8-9 is healthy, 6-7 probably a minimum.
I usually get between 5-6, 7 max (I'm 17 too.) It's sort of impossible at our age because of school, college apps, all that fun stuff.

I would have thought it all depends on each individual and the way inwhich they sleep.
A nervous Youngster might need more time in bed, perhaps up to 10 hours if needs be!
Another might be perfectly rested with only 8 hours in bed.
Another might survive perfectly well on 6!
I believe the "norm" is 8 hours...But who is normal when it comes to the hours we need to sleep?
I think the only answer can be found by the Youngster her or himself, and by judging from the way they look and behave in the morning!
I hope that helps!

8 hours is usually recommended but through your mid twenties you may be able to get by with no less than 5 hours. might be much less than that if you are in college ;-)
