my just about 5 year old brother has a really high fever (not sure how high i didn't ask my mom) and he's really hot and tired and really sick. my whole family is recovering from the flu that's been going around so we're just thinking that it's the flu but no one else has had it this bad. It's probably still just the flu but he can't keep the tylenol down so do you have any other ways other than tylenol and drinking lots to keep a fever down?

try a sponge bath befor giving the Tylenol. sometimes with children if they are running a temp , the temp will make them vomit when they put something in their stomach |

suppositories....kids hate them but it is really important to get the fever down. They sell them at Walgreens, CVS they are called Feverall and they work really fast. |

Put your brother into a COOL bath, and wash his forehead with the same cool water. Do that at least once an hour until his fever comes down or he can keep the Tylenol down. |

i think that he should stay in the house and lay down all of you should |

Stick him in a lukewarm bath. You don't want the water to be cold because then he will start to shiver and shivering brings your body temperature up. Also, if he can't keep the Tylenol down then go to the store and buy some Tylenol suppositories. He will be able to keep the medicine in his body that way. Just in case you are having problems with him drinking, give him Popsicles. |

i was sick when i was little and frequently had a high fever. tehy used to put me in a room temperature bath and i think Motrin is better for kids fever than anything else. if it is over 102 take him to the emergency room anything higher than that can be dangerous. |

a cool bath will help, but if it is too high and can't keep down meds...tell mom to take him 2 the doctor |

Take a bath. It doesnt have to be cold but just not burning, and stay there until it's cool. Then lie down and don't cover up. Get a wet rag and put it on your head, thighs, arms, tummy, etc. Make sure it stays cold. hope this helps. |

I found wtih my son the best remedy for a fever was childrens Motrin within the 1st dose and a little of time his fever would come down, You should usually contniue with one more dose of whatever pain Reliever you are giving him to ensure it does not return again. Continuing to monitor his temp. Take care and best of luck |

Cool Cloths under the armpits and other glands. One on the forehead should help too. He probably cant keep soup down. Do not put him into a cold bath or put rubbing alcohol on him, it may cause shock and seizures. Hope he feels better! |

whenever i get a fever i put an icepack or a cold wet towel on my forehead. it always helps but relieves me for only like 30 minutes so it's temporary. make sure he gets lots of rest though. hope this helped and hope that he feels better soon :) |

I'm no medical expert, but I guess putting a cold towel over his head will cool his core temperature down. However, don't trust me on that, if your brother's fever is that high and he is only 5 years old, definitely needs to go to the emergency room. |

sweat. it's the body's natural cooling system. you have to naturally evaporate all that heat from inside of you. wrap your brother in thick blankets, and make him drink alot of hot soup. if he can walk around let him. as he sweats wipe it off with a dam towel. if he tells you he feels hot, then let him stay like that for an hour or so then take out the blankets to cool down. if he says he feels cold wrap the blankets again. don't forget to let him still take Tylenol cuz it does help. by the end of the day, he would've cooled down a degree or two. |

Well first, make sure your mom does not give him anything with Aspirin in it since it can cause Reye syndrome in a young person with a viral infection. If the fever is low-grade, sometimes it is best to just let it run its course since treating it aggresively can actually interfere with your brother's immune system response to the virus. Some viruses actually thrive at lower body temperatures, so a fever is actually helping the body get rid of the virus. There are some ways to keep your brother more comfortable, though, and keep the fever low: A lukewarm bath or sponge bath may help cool someone with a fever. This is especially effective after medication is given. Don't use cold baths or alcohol rubs since they cool the skin, but often make the illness worse by causing shivering, which raises your body temperature. Drink cool liquids, as tolerated. |

Put Ice cubes in a towel on his head. Take ice cold water and wet the chest, arms and legs. Then take alcohol (rubbing) and rub it on the chest and legs and arms. This should immediately bring it down. |

He is probably dehydrated (you said he isn't keeping anything down). I hope he has seen a doctor, he is really little to be so sick and being dehydrated can be very serious. How about if you try having him sip (not drink a lot) but drink lots of sips. Pedialyte is excellent. Pick up a flavored one and have him sip it slowly. Not too cold. Lots of slow sips. And please make sure he sees a doctor, he may need an IV to rehydrate him. |

I cannot believe all fo the stupid @$$ed answers on here. If its over 103 you need to take him in IMMEDIATELY. Tylonal and Ibprofen should be the first thing you run to, they lower fevers in as little as 30 minutes. |

crush the Tylenol and mix it with some ice cream or a spoonful of honey. have him take a luke warm bath. put cold damp face cloths on his forehead and behind his neck. change the cloths every couple hours. make sure he keeps hydrated with water, and soup and gatorade. good luck |

YOU should get your parents to take your brother to the doctor pronto. If you can't get in touch with your doctor, he should be taken to the "emergency room" right away. It takes plenty of liquids and light broth which will help intensely. I hope that he gets better soon. What shall we then say to these things? If GOD be for us, WHO can be against us? - Romans 8:31. The Lord daily loadeth us with BENEFITS, even the God of our salvation. Selah. - Psalm 68:19. Peace, Love and God Bless |

As long as your brother's temperature stays below 102, there's really no need to try to lower it. Fever is not an enemy, it's actually a good defense against infection. The body cells can work just fine at the higher temperature, but germs like viruses can't. They can't reproduce either, so it limits the number of enemies the body has to fight. If your brother is feeling really miserable, you can use a lukewarm (coolish) washclothe to wipe his face and arms with. Don't wipe down his trunk though, as that might cool him too much and make him barf again. If the fever gets above 102 and you can't get the Tylenol down, though- he really should be seen in the ER. They have suppository forms they can use, and it's safer to have them lower the temperature using baths. In the meantime, still encourage him to sip fluids- whatever liquid you can get down him is fine, but if he's been vomiting, it will be more likely to stay down if he has small sips of room temperature liquids- not cold ones. Otherwise, just let him rest and sleep, as that is what his body needs most. It's scary when a little one is sick, I know. Just remember, your body is designed to handle the invaders, and fever is the choice first weapon of defense. Fever is not the enemy and it won't hurt him to have one as long as it's at or below 102. |
