You can buy nail-biting gel that you paint on your nails, that tastes reaaaalllly bad. (at the drug store) Or you could try wearing some light cotton gloves during your serious nail biting times, (like when you are watching t.v., or you're nervous). Put on some lotion that you love, slip on the gloves and chew some gum. Your hands will feel softer, too.

The key to biting nails is nervousness. Find out what makes you nervous or scared. You may not know it. If you think you do, then do it. If you are still biting your nails you are still, scared, or nervous about something. Understand ,it does not have to be heights or something. Are you afriad that you will fail something, or mess up in a relationship. Those fears are not easily dealt with but taking time out for yourself or living more freely from your partner at the moment can help.
Nonetheless, find out what makes you scared or nervous and do it. I bite my nails when I program because as a computer scientist I put myself on the clock. I am not extreme but it is a habit. Taking time off I gave my fingers a large break. So, using my example, find out and confront it. If you still are biting, their is a deeper fear or worry.Find it and confront it.

It's called a bad habit...the only way to break a habit is to change the behavior for an adequate amount of time until the need to do whatever it is that you're doing will subside. Start today...paint your nails a pretty bright color, and put some Neosporin around the nail where it is raw, it will protect you from infection. The Neosporin should also help you from biting them, as it is not good to ingest, and the pretty nail will remind you to keep your fingers out of you mouth. Try chewing gum, it's something to do to keep your mouth busy, now all you have to do is keep those fingers busy too. Sew or cook, do something when that need is strong, you will only have to fight the need to start the habit for a short while before you break yourself of that nasty habit for good. Good luck.

Biting nails is not a bad habit as people tell you.
But if the bone shows and it causes pain, you may have a psychological problem, such as obsessive compulsive disorder, though I am NOT a specialist and my word should not be treated as though I am.

D@mn you're the thrid person who has asked this and i'm answering. well i'll show you the natural way to a complete recovery. tape em off for now or use w/e the other people said and then you need to eat fish and shrimp(with the shell on the shrimp) to get karitene in your body and strengthen your nails so good luck(i used to bite mine thats how i did it) =)
AND THE KEY TO BITING NAILS IS NOT NERVOUSNESS THAT MORON DOESN;'T KNOW WHAT HES TALKIN ABOUT oh yea it's also if you're body is at a loss for karitene or /w/e it's called not only nervousness...that idiot..

There is some NASTY tasting polish you can try.
And depending on how bad you want them - you can either buy a gift certificate to a nail salon - only to be cashed in when your nails are long enough to benefit...or maybe hang a picture of somebody elses really nice nails where it will be an inspiration to you.
Biting your nails, is habitual like smoking, so you are going to have to break the habit using willpower!

I beleive they make nail polish, that is designed to taste really awful when you bite your nails. Or just put band aides on your fingers.
I've heard it is a really hard habbit to break, good look.

You'll appreciate them if they look good, so go and get fake ones and when your natural nails get long enough you could opt to have the fake ones removed and go from there.
