Make sure you're in your most comfortable postition in your bed and that you're warm. Make sure there's no distractions in your room like clocks ticking or other kinds of noisemaking things. Try to sleep without any sort of light because if you open your eyes after having them closed for a while, your eyes will immediately "wake up" after seeing the light. Also make sure you don't eat or drink at least 2 hours before going to bed.
So as you're lying in bed, close your eyes and think about good stuff in your life. If you can't, think about stuff you're going to do the next day. If you're in school, you could try to calculate your average in each class by trying to remember all your quizzes and tests and doing the math will get you to sleep. You can even find some sort of short brain teaser and think about it.
I hope my ideas and tips help. Good luck trying to sleep =)

I got my method from an old episode of The Mary Tyler Moore show (well, they're all old episodes...lol).
Just lie down, make a conscious effort to completely relax all of your muscles, close your eyes and put every thought out of your mind (easier said than done, I know). The important part is the breathing: take slow, deep breaths....it's similar to meditation I guess, but it really works for me.
It never takes longer than a few minutes to work for me, as long as I'm not stressed about anything.

Try to do things that make you tired throughout the day. Or before bed time go outside for a walk. If still doesn't work, ask a doctor for the sleeping medication. Also, try counting 0 to 100 over and over. And pray while laying down in your bed.

their are very many different medications.
but if you do not want to take a medication, and want to sleep on your own. yo need to relax
you need to know that resting is the closest thing to sleeping.
resting is very good for you.
you could try exercising at night, then take a shower rigt before you sleep.
also try not to look at the clock. that is a big factor of stress.

Oh, dear. Try drinking a glass of milk -- warm it up if you like -- then lie down, relax, close your eyes and count slowly to ten, repeatedly.
It usually works for me.
-- But if it doesn't work, then don't just toss and turn. Get up and read, or knit, or something. Maybe that will tire you out enough to sleep.
Good luck.

Sometimes I take a Melatonin tablet (1 mg or less), and sometimes I'll have one glass of wine. Soft instrumental music can help, and a fan or white noise generator can help as well.

This is the best way, and I always sleep in like five minutes, because my brother times me... (Seriously, this will work.)
If you have a lover, think of him/her in bed and keep your eyes closed. Think about the sweetest things in life. Maybe you like flowers, cookies, pretzels, etc. I suggest you drink a glass of milk. If this doesn't help, try to get half a sleeping pill. It won't work automatically, but you should sleep in about 5-10 minutes. If this doesn't work, try look up "How To Sleep" in google. (Yahoo preffered)

O.K! first you get a big glass of water, then you put your hair up so it will not bother you. now read till your eyes are tired then try to count to 1,000. now if that doesn't work pray the longest prayer to god but thinking he's your friend. ( remember you can tell him everything)

Let yourself get a little cold, so don't cover up too much or sit in a cool room till you feel the need to cover up. I think the drop in body temperature makes you sleepy - works for me and I have a fan on at night if it's really warm

2-READ A BOOK
3-WORK HARD DURING THE DAY (PHYSICALLY)

So you have insomnia, not fun. First you can try soft music or cd's of nature music, this is called white noise. Play it on a cd that stops automatically or you will be woken up.
Don't nap, that is hard.
Caffeine only in the early morning. Don't forget soda has caffeine.
Don't eat after 6pm if possible but don't go to bed w/a growling belly either.
Keep a daily routine.
If all that fails see a sleep specialists.
Hope tonight is a good sleep.
