well you could get a radio and listen to it before bed.
or get some ear plugs and shut everything else out.

dance to tire yourself out. i usually cannot go to sleep unless i'm tired and i hate that because i wish i could take naps. my body usually knows it's sleep time around 11. in those rare moments when i can't go to sleep, i dance to make myself tired then i take a warm shower. or do what my mom does and eat like 30 mins before bed. it always knocks her right out.

There is lots of advice available on line, so you could google it. But here is some advice from a person (me) who can relate to your problem.

1. Remove distractions which stimulate the mind. Like a television. Or if you feel you can't fall asleep without it on, tune into a program with soft, monotonous voices. Like something on the Science or National Geographic channels. Set the volume low, and don't watch it, just turn your back to it and listen to it like someone is reading you a bedtime story. Set the timer so that it is not on all night. You will get more resftful sleep that way.

2. Get one of those "white noise" machines. It is a relaxation aid which plays sounds which are supposed to drown out other noises. It could be a humming....or something which sounds like soft static. Or you could play nature sounds like ocean waves, chirping birds, thunder storm, or soft rain.
Here's a link to get you started but you could google "white noise sleeping machine or just sleep machine"
http://www.smarter.com/---se--qq-white+noise+machine+sleep--pt-0--tt-.html
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=sleep+machine
3. Make sure your room is a comfortable place to sleep. A comfortable temperature, soft, clean sheets, cozy blanket, fluffy pillows.

4. Read. But allow yourself to read only a set number of pages so that you're not up all night reading "just one more page/chapter." Reading can allow you to get your mind off of all the day's hussle and on to a story and it's characters. It can allow your brain to "gear" down, much like a Jake Brake gears down a tractor trailor.

5. Eliminate stimulating foods at least 4 hours before bed time. No caffine from soft drinks, chocolate, coffe or tea.

6. Set a ritual. What ever you want it to be. Find what works for you. Some people find a hot bath or shower relaxing but others find it refreshing to the point of stimulation. Maybe the ritual is something as simple as retiring at a set time EVERY night, followed by brushing your teeth and hair, using the toilet, and doing a few stretches.

7. Learn to meditate. Many people, like myself, simply have difficulty "shutting off" their brains. My mind races about all sorts of things and I have to consciously focus on something mundane or soothing.

I hope something I've shared helps.

I sleep with my tv on. I am not necessarily watching it, I'm more like listening to it. By having the tv on it keeps my brain from trying to think about stuff which is what usually keeps me awake. Also, it gives me the feeling that I'm not alone.

Try avoiding your ipod for a while, just for the sake you can get some sleep. Drink hot milk 2 hourse before you sleep, lie down in a comfortable position..the best way is lying flat on your bed!.. Get rid of the things on your mind so you can fall asleep faster. Sleep in a quiet room, if not, go to another room if you're not comfortable.. The secret to falling asleep is being comfortable the best way that you can.

well dont eat before you go to bed cus that keeps your body up because its sitll working... watch tv as you fall asleep and have the volume down low thats what i do

jesses_girl2006
try putting some milk in the microwave for a about 20-30 seconds. Then drink it. The reason why this works is because it makes the same acid in turkey that makes you sleep when you warm up the milk. Also, that's why a lot of babies drink warm milk! ;)

Try reading an interesting book that you cant put down and you really want to know what happens.Zonk! you fall asleep.

Try not to watch movies on your ipod, its just not worth straining your eyes for. If you still want to watch your ipod movies, you could get an AV cable and plug that into your tv for a bigger screen. Besides sleeping pills, you could try exercising or even a few press-ups before bed. This will tire your body and your arms making you want to just relax,

relaxing your body means relaxing your mind and relaxng your mind means sleeping.

Hope this helps!

Well i wouldn't watch TV or anything before going to bed. The light keeps you awake!! Maybe you can try ear plugs. And try not to be afraid of the noises =] Or take a few benadril to knock you out =]

I sleep like many others , in the dark and ignoring noise

Wintermute
it probably doesnt give you migraines. it would give you tension headaches or eye strain. what you need to do is have a bedside lamp and instead of trying to watch tv or w/e you watch on your ipod, READ A BOOK! it's soothing, entertaining for your brain and relaxing! granted it's slightly more work than watching the boob tube but i find i have no troubles getting to sleep. also you can use a fan to cover up any noises that you might hear. kind of like white noise, it's steady and low enough not to interfere with your sleeping. (and since it's not that loud it will allow you to wake up when mister eyeball plucker comes out of the closet)
(sorry bad joke)

Don't eat too late at night or take daytime naps. Try reading a magazine or have some type of ritual to do every night before your want to go to sleep. A great recipe that might help would be warm milk, but dont just drink it plain add some evaporated milk to it and some sugar. It's just like a white Cocoa. Have a SMALL glass of that so you dont gave to get up and use the restroom. Hope i help you.
