I wash before I go. I only want to touch myself with clean hands. If I don't get any on me I don't bother washing afterwards.

True question "Who have the cleanest bits, a mechanic or an accountant?"
The answer is "A mechanic as he washes his hands BEFORE he goes for a pee, were as the accountant washes them after going for a pee"

If the "loo" is the washroom, then evey single time, and everyone else should too! Handwashing is the number one way to prevent communicable disease.
Bust those bubbles, one and all!

As I have been in health care for more years than I want to think about, I always wash my hands. It is habit. After all you wash your hands after and before you see every patient. I must have washed my hands over 100 times a day over the years. Of course in public venues often the opportunity with porta toilets at outdoor events and some broken sinks in public loos I don't get that chance, though my wife often has waterless hand sanitiser in her handbag.
The thing to think about is If you wash your hands and have to turn off the faucet or hand crank the towel dispenser then you get the germs back on your hands, Also even if you are careful and don't contaminate your hands during and after the washing process, you still have the door handle to deal with. Since probably 50 % of the people who use public facilities do not wash their hands, when you grab the door handle/knob with your freshly washed and slightly damp hands you get some one elses doo-doo on them.
I guess we should put a station where your hands could be chopped off just outside the loo, this would solve the hand washing problem.
And just as a note if you are visiting some other countries, make a note to look at the hands of the person you are greeting before shaking hands, some of the loos there have never seen paper.

What's wrong with a little urine on your hands? That's why I wear dark pants to dry my hands. Tan pants won't work because it looks like you went in your pants.

Not after just a wee, since urine is sterile when it is produced and I can manage without getting it on my hands!
Incidentally - if you flush the loo before washing your hands after having done a poo, the germs have been transferred already to at least the toilet handle and the taps.
I think we are mostly too hung up about hygiene. It has its place but so many people are paranoid. We're animals and need to be able to survive as such.

Must agree Helen, washing hands is so essential. I avoid certain restaurants because of the 'lack' of this practice. What I do not understand is that we all know where food borne bacteria originates. Why are people so lazy?
Oh and EVERYTIME, plus when I take the children to the potty, I insist they wash as well.

Always wash hands after being to the toilet, and again before preparing food or handling food.
Its a rather gross thought that people don't, what amazes me is watching women who just watch their finger tips, and then go handle food.
I followed a lady out of the toilets, who not bothered to wash her hands. I went and ordered a meal, when I realized who was serving me, I refused to take or pay for the meal I had ordered, because the lady serving me, was the same lady, that I had followed out of the ladies. I made a point of telling her why, other customers walked with me. I have not been back to the same cafe since.

Every single time! I even keep hand wipes and Antibacterial hand gel in my handbag for when there isn't any soap. I think some people are in too much of a hurry to stop, but I think that is really dirty. I was always taught to wash my hands.

I wash my hands after every trip to the toilet. It's not just because you wipe your butt, it's the bacteria and germs off the toilet handle and door off other people. I think it's disgusting to see people leaving the toilet without washing their hands. Also, I hate it when the toilet isn't flushed, and the seat isn't down. Yuck!

Always, because, you see, all of these people are taking a pee and touching their sweaty, gnarly privates and not washing, then going out and touching things like the flusher, the light switch, and the door handle...
Actually, after reading this, I'm thinking of never leaving my home without sterile surgical gloves on. LOL!
