Not just in children, but all people have cardinal signs that would be prevalent. If kidneys are not working properly, there would be a decreased urinary output thus the person will swell up like the good year blimp. Red blood cells live for approximately 120 days. They are produced by a substance called erythropoeitin that is excreted by the kidneys. If the kidneys cannot produce this, the person will gradually become anemic. The blood flow to the kidneys will be decreased and the heart rate coulkd possibly go up because the body sees a problem with blood flow and wants to get the blood to profuse to t he kidneys. The kidneys also secrete a substance called renin that transforms into aldosterone, then angiotensin I, then angiotensin II. Angiotensin II helps to bring the blood pressure down by taking sodium and water from the tissues from swelling and pulling it back into the vascular space (bloodstream) for secretion by urinary elimination. This is a lot of information...but I hope it helps. |

Usually the signs and symptoms of kidney disease will be pronounced when someone has reached end-stage renal disease. If you suspect your kid to have kidney failure, he should be referred to a nephrologist. The best way to know if your kid had kidney failure is by calculating the GFR or glomerular filtration rate. This is the rate of how much urine we pass per minute. This is a good standard to check the renal function. If your kid is already oliguric or has low urine output or anuric (no urine output) it could mean your kids kidney function is not functioning well. YOur kid will not have any appetite, complains of nausea and vomiting, fatigue and weakness, pruritus or itching all over the body, peripheral oedem (puffy ankles, legs or even face) and shortness of breath. These are the signs and symptoms on the first stage of the disease. If all these symptoms are present on your kid, bring him to a nephrologist so that treatment can be given as soon as possible. |
