Yes. And while you're at it, take the rat to the vet to check for rabies. If all is clear, follow up by keeping the rat restricted from areas where he/she can pick up really bad germs. Besides, after hand-feeding your pet, wash your hands to prevent it from nibbling on your fingers. Last, don't handle a hungry pet food smells on your body or clothing, or you'll enjoy many more bitings!

if it's always been kept in captivity it wouldn't have rabies and you'd know if it did cuz you'd see physical changes in it's behavior.

Rats can carry rabies. Further ther are other diseases one can get after a rat bite,eg. Rat bite fever, Tetanus.
Clean the area immediately with SOAP and water.
And meet your doctor immediately.

depending on why you suspect your rat has rabies will answer your question.
pet store rats are unlikely to have rabies, if you bought from somewhere else, you might want to take precautionary action.
if you are worried i would suggest calling up a medical helpline, you don't want to go waiting in a&e over nothing.

If it had rabies, you would know. Trust me. If you're still nervous, go get it checked to make yourself stop worrying, but honestly, the risk is so small that it's really not worth it.

If you go to the hospital, they have to kill your pet to see if you have rabies. Wait until the morning and go on line to see if you have any symptoms

Chnaces are not, as it would exhibit symptoms, but if you want to feel better, get to the ER (with the animal)

It shouldn't be too bad. My rabbit was dropped off at my doorstep. It bit me when I picked him up but nothing happened. He's probably just not comfortable with you right now if you just got him. It should be fine but if you are worried then you and the rabbit should get checked out RIGHT AWAY! Your rabbit may show no symptoms but still carry rabies.
Here are some signs of rabies:
irritability
excessive movements or agitation
confusion
hallucinations
aggressiveness
bizarre or abnormal thoughts
muscle spasms
abnormal postures
seizures (convulsions)
weakness or paralysis (when a person cannot move some part of the body)
extreme sensitivity to bright lights, sounds, or touch
increased production of saliva or tears
difficulty speaking

The chances of a pet rat having rabies is VERY unlikely. I've been bitten by my rats many times. They don't mean it. But as someone said, take the rat to a vet for observation.

LOL.. No. Your rat doesn't have rabies if you bought it from the store. Rats bite sometimes. I've had it happen too. You clean it up and put a bandaid.

I don't think a pet rat will give you rabies, unless you brought it in from the wild. Chances are it does not have rabies, but it might be feeling poorly. You should probably take it to the vet for a checkup.
If you get it "tested" for rabies they have to kill the rat. They don't give rabies shots to people in the stomach any more. They give 2 regular shots and they cost about $800 for the two of them.

If your rat has always been caged or not exposed to untamed rats, and is not displaying any symptoms of rabies, you need not worry.
Just wash the bite area with soap and water, wipe with alcohol or Bactine.

Yes, you should see a doctor. If not for rabies, at least for an infection that may develop from the rat bite and a tetanus shot.

Did it draw blood?
Is there any reason to believe it could have rabies?
If those are both no's, then just treat it as you would any other wound.
Rabies is transmitted through mammals' bodily fluids. If your rat has been bitten by a wild animal, it could have rabies. Otherwise, there's only a very tiny chance it could be sick.
Most domestic rodents (like hamsters and gerbils) do not have a risk of being infected with rabies.

Um... do you keep your rat outside?
I'm pretty sure your rat could only get this disease from other animals. If your rat doesn't come into contact with other animals, perhaps you shouldn't worry?

You'd know if it was sick. It's pretty hard for a pet rat to get rabies.
