Its a way to escape your everday stresses. You substitute alcohol to forget your problems....plus it makes you feel good for a little bit...

Because alcohol is addictive and is a neurotoxin. It is an agonist for Gaba (gamma-aminobutyric acid; a neurotransmitter). In lay terms this means that the alcohol you consume mimics and replaces your naturally occuring neurotransmitter (Gaba). This then causes down-regulation which is when your body stops production of the naturally occuring Gaba because it thinks it already has enough (because of the alcohol that has been consumed, which the body can't distinguish from the REAL neurotransmitter).

If you do not seek professional help with alcholism you are at risk of developing Korsakoff's syndrome (Thiamine/B1 deficiency).

Not sure what an alcholic is.

If you mean alcoholic I would guess its because you are addicted to alcohol.

It can be genetic or you can drink yourself into alcoholism. It doesn't matter why, at least you have realised and can now do something about it. Try AA, people there have been through the same thing and they offer a recovery solution. x

Because you are deficient in "self-regulation." In other words, you do not know how to calm your negative emotions. You do not deal with stress well.
We learn self-regulation in early childhood, from our primary caretaker; usually our mother. People whose mothers were not good at reassuring them and calming them in early childhhod develop disorders of self-regulation.
But LOOK INSIDE YOURSELF for the answers, and just tell them whatever answer comes from your heart; it will be the right one. May you find peace.

ou aint Toots. You just have to either prioritise or organise your life. You are used to meeting your husband at 2 every after noon. Instead of this you should say to him meet me at home and Then we will go out for a drink if we have nothing else to do or we want to . If this is not suitable say to him you will meet him once you have had a bath and a SHAVE (which you need ) and something to eat. Try and find an interst on the computer or reading or something but NEVER go for a drink with out a reason. Been at work etc is good enough reason as long as you think before you go. Dont just fgo out because its what you always do.. YOU defifinately isnt analcaholic Toots..YOU just have to do other things . Loadsa people drink on that island and they aint Alcis. Please star reading or saving or knitting or something but enjoy a drink with it....., SENSIBLY!

first of all WELL DONE for admitting it! by doing that you accept you have a problem and that is the first step. i obviously dont know why, there is going to be an underlying cause why not try alcoholics anonymous or counselling to try and find a cause. drink is very addictive and i feel for you i have a family member that is an alcoholic and it is hard. but you cannot try to improve until you accept you have a problem which you have done which tells me you want to change. get some help and i wish you all the luck in the world. you will get through it.

Because alcohol temporarily makes you feel good, even when in reality, you don't. You should seek help if you feel like you are an alcoholic.

Alcoholism can be genetic, it can also just be a part of you. It's not something that can just be handled. You may want to try to stay away from the people who drink for a while, go to AA meetings, my dad was is a recovering alcoholic, has been for 26 years. Sure, he's not touched the bottle in 26 years, but he can never drink again, or he'll go right back. Keep that in mind as well.

It makes you forget things, all the answers lie in the bottom of a pint glass... well at least they are there until the next morning.

You felt good didn't you when you were drinking? felt slightly happy? Next morning you felt down again, go to the place that makes you happy, go to the intoxication.

That's the reason you are an alcoholic, because you are thinking like that. You have underlying issues. Solve them and you solve the problem.

You will have to look inside yourself for the full answer. Consult a doctor and/or a religious councilor for help too. Some members of my family are/were alchoholic, it runs in families, and if you are Native american(like me, lol) you are"predisposed" to it(they say). I luckily am not(though I do drink once in a while at a party or socially.)Find what causes you to overly drink and try to change your life to avoid what you can of it. Good luck.

Who cares? That's like asking why the building you are in is burning down when what you ought to be asking is how to get out of it.

I'll tell you how to get out of the burning building: you go to an AA meeting, the sooner the better. You do what's suggested. After you get sober, which you will, IF you take the suggestions, you may want to explore esoteric issues such as "why".

But for now, get yourself to safety.

I think some people get addicted to alcohol were others do not.I think we must have a gene that makes some get addicted to drink.Mind I think we all can if we drank every day then our bodies would come to depend on the alcohol.Do you know for certain you are an alcoholic. If not start going with out a drink & fight the urge to have one.Good Luck & seek help

I don't know why you are an alcoholic but you have made the first big step by admitting it. The best thing i can suggest to you is to get help. If you can't cope with meetings them a residential rehab might work for you. The Kenward Trust have both and you should be able to sourse their details online. You should also talk to your GP as he/she should be able to help as well as you may need some councelling seperate to meetings if you decide to take that route. Hope this all works out for you. God Bless

Alcoholics tend to drink because they want to numb some kind of pain or don't want to face something from their past.So ask yourself what you're afraid of & what it is that you're running from. Its hard but better to face your demons & deal with them.If you don't things might get worse for you & your family. There isn't any sin God cannot & will not forgive. He loves you!Ask for forgiveness & help from him. You'll feel like a HUGE load has been lifted.Make a wise choice & take care of yourself.Remember that not only alcoholics suffer but their families as well.

I'm sorry to say that there really isn't a simple answer to this question but I wish you success if you're trying to change this part of your life.

First of all you must find out if you really are and alcoholic or simply someone who enjoys a drink.

If you're drinking alcohol for each and every emotion you experience, such as happiness, sadness, loneliness, disappointment, frustration, etc. then I would say that you're definitely having a problem with alcoholism.

This is where you begin to figure out ... the reasons you are drinking and what benefits you get from overindulging in alcohol. If you sit down and lists all the pros and cons with respect to drinking you may find that the root of your problems.

You may have an addictive personality which would mean that you need to work on self-control and esteem issues in your life. The problems you trying to drink away are only going to be camouflaged for a bit but never solved. If anything they will get worse and create other problems on top of them.

Get yourself involved with some kind of therapeutic assistance group or individual ... if you haven't already done so. Give yourself a chance to feel each emotion in a sober state of mind and discover what it is about each emotion that makes you want to suppress it or hide from it.

I wish you all the best ... and hope that by helping yourself you will be able to enjoy a life of fulfilment and success!

Be prepared for some very hard work and eye opening, heart wrenching at times, experiences. It may hurt ... but experiencing true feelings won't kill you like the alcohol will. Remember that what hurts us only makes us stronger. I wish you strength and stamina in dealing with your addiction.

Booze has become the central focus of your life. When you die, people will remark how much booze you could put away, or they will say they never saw you drunk, or whatever. But the main focus of their discussion will be about the booze. Ask yourself if this is how you want to be remembered.
