What the heck is wrong with me??
|
my life is pretty normal. i work a job that i am moderatly happy with, i am amidst making a great and exciting future for myself, my family is mostly great and i have the best boyfriend/relationship on the planet.
everything in my life is either average, or above average!
yet i still get into these ruts. these short time periods in my life when i literally hate MYSELF. not my life. MYSELF. i hate how i look, how i dress, how i act. i feel like i'm not good enough for anyone or ANYTHING. i find myself crying constantly. but i hide it. i cry in the bathroom and then play it off like i'm fine. i don't feel like i'm "unhappy", but then why am i so upset?? i don't eat, and just feel like sleeping...a lot. i know, you're probably thinking "DUH! you're depressed!" but i don't get it. my life is good. my relationships are wonderful. my future is bright. why the random "breakdowns"???

Have you tracked these episodes? Is it possible they have something to do with your menses? Premenstrual syndrome could be the culprit here. Use a calendar to track when it happens for a couple of months. See where it lands in your cycle. Then go to the doctor and talk to him/her. This is very treatable, and no reason for you to be miserable with it forever. Good luck to youl.

How old are you? When I was 17, I began feeling like this too. I used to walk around with my head down and would cry in the bathroom. I would sit outside and put my head in my lap and cry but I would hide it. I used to take sleeping pills just to go to bed so I wouldn't feel this way. I too had a great life but this depression seemed to wear me out and make my life miserable. It still does sometimes too. It might be a chemical imbalance. Your hormones are changing probably due to age.

I know you don't want to hear this, but you can have long periods of being positive and still have a depression problem. The best way to find out is to go to your family Doctor and talk to him/her about it. Some days I'm really happy and then other days I just want to close the bedroom door, climb under the covers and go to sleep. Please get checked out. It could get worse. I have a wonderful family, great supportive sons, good friends, a beautiful condo and a cat for company. I still have bad days.

maybe you should go see your family doctor.. maybe he could do some blood work and see if your hormones are fluctuating.. i have a hormone imbalance and it causes me to go from happy to depressed to anxious.. maybe see your obgyn and put on birth control to steady the hormone production if that's the problem... good luck honey.. hang in there!

You could be like many others with what's called bipolar disorder. In bipolar disorder you have mostly "up" days, but there are days that you are very sad. You should go to a health professional and tell him or her what you are feeling. There are very effective meds to "stablize" you mood so you don't feel those lows so severely. If these episodes are associated with your menstrual cycle, they may be what's commonly called "pms", this can be treated also.

You need to learn how to change your thought patterns. You're down on yourself because of what you think and how you think. You're not depressed so much as stuck in a bad habit. Positive thinking might sound cheezy but it's the only way to change your ideas about yourself. Here's more info:
http://www.coping.org/growth/affirm.htm
There's no chemical imbalance in your brain and you don't need drugs. You need to LEARN how to think. Your negative view of yourself leads you to see all of your world in a negative light. You begin to believe and act as a `"loser.'' You see nothing in a positive light and can't be convinced that there is a better option in life. You don't need drugs to change how you think!!!

Trust me, it is depression. I have suffered with this for years. My life is pretty great too, but that does not stop a person from having depression. It is caused by a chemical imbalance in a persond brain. Meds are often needed to correct it. It could also be a hormone problem. See your doctor. Good Luck to you!

You should probably have a chat with your doctor. The same thing was happening to me, and just talking about it made me feel better. It doesn't matter that you have everything going for you, you can still feel blue. Are you sure there isn't a deeper reason than the stuff you mentioned ? By that I mean, are you sure you don't feel your life is just that, average, and you want excitement and change, and just something different?
Hope things look up for you...

Yeah, I know... but guess what? That's the definition of depression. Upset all the time for seemingly no reason. I used to be the same way- great life, exept when I looked in the mirror. Funny thing is, I'm cute! So why was I crying all the time? I went to my doc, she hooked me up. I don't take anything anymore, that was about a year ago. If you want this cycle to stop, you have to make a quick phonecall to your doc.

The best way to understand yourself as well as others is that we all have what is called "personality", which comes from the Latin word for "persona", which means "mask".
Once you roll this concept around your brain, you will next understand that you and others are "mulit-dimensional" people, which means that we have "multi-personalities"......
Before you get upset and discard what was said above, please understand that this is not a negative thing when the majority of people are like this, which is "normal".
"Your" problem is that you want to be the best that you can be, which is the best way to be!
"The" problem is that you have to understand your multi-dimensionality because you are dealing with "multiple-people with multiple-problems" that you can fix!
The best way to fix the "You" and "The" is to control your personalities (mask).....Once you understand and do this is when you will really start being a contributor to Humanity (which I feel that you are on your way because you started to point your finger at yourself first before others).....Congratulations EdgeX, you're on the right track!

That is something you cannot control. You might have chemical imbalance and that has nothing to do with your lifestyle. You could be a millionaire and have a perfect life but still feeling depressed because the chemicals in your body are imbalance. You need to go see a counselor.

Sometimes how you feel diesn't always depend on how good the other aspects in your life are. Career, Family and love life are a big part of a persons life. But theres another part your missing to acknowledge in your "pretty normal" life. Yourself. Have you asked yourself if there is anything thats bothering you? Maybe it's a twinge of guilt that only concerns you, not your family, your boyfriend or your career? Is your career that your doing so well on THE one you've always wanted?? Is your boyfriend THE one for the moment? He might be nice and perfect but not perfect for YOU?
As you can notice, all the questions point towards YOU. Ask yourself what could be the problem and be honest to yourself. And since this is a hard thing to do on your own. You might want to see a doctor or therapist for help. Good luck.

It sounds possibly chemical to me. Are your bouts around say... around pms time? Or, is there a history of depression in your family? You should talk to your doctor about it -- your sad jags may have something to do with a simple chemical imbalance that can be offset by diet, exercise or a vitamin supplement. They may also be related to say estrogen levels, or some other hormone imbalance. Don't worry yourself into making your bouts worse -- but do try to keep track of when you feel sad (when, what you ate that day, physical activity... anything like that) and the next time you see your doctor, ask them about it.

see a docotr. like you, i have what i veiw as a good life. a job im happy with, the best boyfriend ever, a cute little apartment, great friends...but sometimes i would just get so anxious, and sometimes id just get sad for no reason. my doctor told me i had anxiety problems and gave me meds, after a few visits with her, she gave me a sheet for my meds and it said "for anxiety and depression". when i noticed it at home i burst into tears and called my mother. she gave me some of the best insight ever "honey, if you're getting this upset over it, it probably is depression. depression doesnt mean you have a bad life or theres something wrong with your life, it just means you have a problem you need to deal with" so i take my meds, call my mom when im feeling down, and keep a journal
i think you should really consult your doctor and get an appointment with a psyciatrist for a professional diagnosis. this could be controlled with some medications, a little paitence, and good friends.

We all go through this....I've done this before too....I think it's just our female hormones....my cousin and I say that it's ok...we get on this "pity pot" for no reason at all.....we've decided that as long as we don't stay on the pity pot too long, it's ok.
If we are on it for too long, then we think we need someone to talk to, maybe even professionally....don't fret....you are perfectly normal....I remember when I was a bit younger tho' I thought the Birth Control pill that I was on was adding to my hormonal issues....there is an effect between levels of estrogen, etc...if you notice you do this at certain times of the month, you may want to discuss it with your doctor....otherwise, I wouldn't worry so much.... Hang in there, this too shall pass!

First of all, don't hide your feelings....your family loves you and they should know how you feel. Sometimes people get depressed this time of year, for unknown reasons. I think you need to just keep a positive attitude, and buy yourself something nice, even if it's just something small. Whenever you feel down, remember all the good things, and think of something happy. Good luck, and cheer up....it's the holidays!

Depression is often due to a chemical imbalance and not due to the quality of your life. You should see a psychiatrist, who could start you on some medications that might make all the difference in the world. Good luck.
