I suffer from mood swings as part of a mood disorder, I get such severe ones I have to take medication, it does help. If your mood swings are bad, I would see your gp who can refer you to a psychiatrist, they help deal with mood disorders. They can recommend medication and counselling as well if necessary.
Otherwise, if your mood is high, don't take on too much, I have to force myself to rest even if I don't sleep, I aslo get a trusted family member to take my bank cards so I don't spend too much money on silly things.
If your mood is low, do what you feel capable of doing. Don't try to make serious decisions. Allow yourself to lounge about as you won't feel like doing much. If you don't feel like eating much just have soup or something else light.

The best way to deal with mood swings is to take a mood stabilizing medication such as Lithium. The latest clinical research studies have proven that taking SSRIs like Zoloft may help depression and other disorders like OCD, but they make mood swings much worse. They can even trigger bipolar mania, even in someone this has not happened to before. If you are having mood swings you need to stabilize your moods and anti-depressants have been medically proven to be risky in these circumstances. So the best way to deal wth mood sings is to take mood stabilizing medication. The link below will enable you to take a free online professional test to see if your mood swings are significant enough to count as a mood disorder. These are exactly the same tests as psychiatrists administer. There is also info on mood stabilizers such as Lithium (don't freak - I take it with no side effects - forget the stereotypes and get the latest facts.) Good luck - mood swings are horrible and I hope you get it sorted out soon.

Speak to someone like a counsellor about the things that are causeing the swings. If things are irratating you and this is causeing the swings then a course of CBT may help put things in perspective and eliviate those bad moods

Well, I'll just assume this is a general question with no reference to anyone. I think every one deals with mood swings differently because I believe in individual differences. It depends on the person. I guess we just have to do some soul-searching. It can be anything, really. Time-out for a few minutes in a quiet corner, writing in a journal about what ticks you and how does it make you feel, talk to someone you trust and avoid those that ticks you, keep away from sharp objects... etc...I think it depends on what works for the individual.

Most people tend to have mood swings from time to time. This is natural. However, should you be on top of the world and feeling superhuman at times and then feeling exscessively depressed on other occasions, then you may have bipolar disorder. In this case it would be wise for you to consult a doctor.
Some natural remedies for mood swings from a normal mood to a depressed or melancholy state of mind include singing and dancing as the ancient Greeks used to prescribe for melancholia, eating chocolate [not much is needed], and watching comedy films.

When you feel that you are going to snap!! take two minutes in a quiet room away from everyone and ask yourself why. I suffer with mood swings with pms and find this is the best way to react. Ride with it and what ever is being said and done at the time that is going to make you snap. Let it go above your head
