Its very very normal for people your age to feel that way. I lost my father to alcohol when I was 10, and that was very hard!
"what are ways that i can fight depression?"
# Find forums like this and talk about it.
# Find forums with your interests (what you find enjoyable and talk about them.
Be happy for your mother that she has someone to love, even though it is not your father. My mother got a new boyfriend one year after my fathers death. I can see now, that without him she would not be as happy!
Weight problem: Find a sport you enjoy and join a team!
As you begin to have hobbies (sports and talks on the internet) your self esteem will rise, because you do things you find enjoyable!
You took the first step and asked for help! That is a very good sign!
Good luck:)

PS: DO NOT seek help from psychotherapist or psychologists, as I see someone wrote! It will only distance you from your goal. What you are going through is perfectly normal!

I'll tell you the natural way xD!
First of all your diet can actually depress you. Sugars (simple and complex) causes your body to release cortisol which is the stress hormone which actually depresses you. I stopped eating as much sugars and carbs as i usually did and it really helped my depression since i dont get depressed as much out of no where. Buy a lot more apples and fruits and eat those when your hungry and want a snack, also baby carrots fill you up really quickly so you wont over eat.
I also have a list of goals i'd like to live to experience in life, and even tho i made that list last year i already have a few things crossed off i already did. It really helps by giving you a purpose to live through depression
As for things you can take for depression please take antidepressants as your LAST choice. You can search the dangers of antidepressants on anything, heres a few links

Here is a natural way thats very innexpensive,
http://www.lifebalm.com/herbal-products/Single-Herbs/St-Johns-Wort-Herb-Capsule.html
I hope you look into it
Also turn to friends and spend time with them. Try to keep your mind off what depresses you since it is out of your control, but think of what is in your control like your future. Also find a hobby you can escape to like reading, drawing, a videogame.
I hope you feel better, these are the things I do for my depression. =]

yeah, exercise, and try to go out and not just stay in home.
find some help from experts like psychotherapist or psychologists, because the good ones (I don't mean the expensive ones, but there are some psychotherapist that are really helpful) can help you by giving you advice and . You could ask your doctor for a referral. It's nothing out of the ordinary going to get this type of help, because more and more people are getting stressed and/or depressed.
Sometimes you might think you could get out of depression by yourself, but it could be better when there's someone to help :) Trust me.
Or you could always talk to friends that you know they are understanding. Sometimes your friends can be a bit too busy to talk with, so wait til they get all their job done so they'll be patient to talk with. You know everybody got things to do.
You could go to your local community centre and talk to some counsellors, or ask the receptionist if there's someone who can provide you information about depression.
You could be covered by the government health insurance card, so ask if there are some help that you could get for free, or pay less.
I hope you're going to get well.
Depression is not like a cold that recovers within days, or a week. It could take a few months to get it off you, but it will one day. So cheer up. You are loved :)
Take care.

Even though it may seem like your mom hasn't got the time or energy, I really think you need to talk to her first. She knows you best, loves you, and at least she will be able to support you as a mom.
And another thing you can do is ask your mom to take you to your family doctor, to see if there is a physical reason why you might be feeling this way.
Girls go through so many changes at your age (and that is when I first remember being depressed myself)-- so I think a doctor might make sure you are healthy in terms of your hormones.
Is there anyone at school-- a teacher or a school counselor that you can talk to? They are there to help.
Good luck sweetheart.

Diet and exercise will help, but finding someone to talk to is probably the best fix. Find a school counselor, a therapist and if you can talk to your mother...not over TV or dinner, but sit down with just her and tell her how you feel. Don't fight this alone. There are also teen lines that have a real person to talk to 24/7

i can tell you the first step. Talk to a school guidance counselor or your doctor about seeing a counselor or psychotherapist. the rest you discuss with your therapist what you should do. most importantly you get what you believe , so believe that there are ups and downs in life, in everybody's life. so try your best to cope with what you have now. you seriously neeeeeed a counselor.there are many things, teachers, parents, friends etc don't understand which mental health advisers do, don't let people say it's all in your head or that your weak, because you do have a handful of troubles in your hand.

Oh yeah eat cake, get fat life's solved. ¬¬
No..
Okay basically, i heard this saying and its made me think.
''There's no point in being depressed because nobody really cares, so you might aswell be happy''
and to a certain extent this is true. Now no DOUBT people care, ( family, friends, Shrinks ect. ) but that doesn't mean they do all the time, there are things on everybody's minds alot. And your not always on someones mind.
So we have to start this bridge with help, and that might be by talking to someone as simple as an understanding friend or a trusting parent, but this may only take some of us so far, we may need to go further into counsiling (sp?) and they can help us to mend the things that are going wrong in our lives.
but we have to remeber that people can only meet us half way, and that we need to do things for ourselves, you can't help others until you help yourself ( yes, i'm a rich one to talk, i have things to work out ) but basically what i'm saying is, if it's getting really bad talk to a teacher at school who can referr you to a doctors and work from there.
but what i say is step back, take aminute for yourself, and start to think positive.
Everything can work out if we make it happen, if you choose to let this illness run through you, then give up. But all of us have the power to fight.
Never give up (:
Good luck.

When I fought my depression at 14 I really just tried with all my heart to look at the good things in the world and the happiness of little children the cuteness of little puppies and all the people in the world that are helpin other people like in the red cross and focused on that and nothing else ! (I also joined the red cross to get more into helping other people and therefore helping myself since that makes me happy) Do something everyday that makes you happy and you'll see that life's worth living !

Read a Psalm a day, and take 3 omega 3's.
in one week you will be ok, in a month you will be even better, underline and put notes in your bible, when you dont find something special go back to the last chapter/s that you did and review.
A Psalm a day keeps the blues away.
if you are ever bed ridden depressed unfunctional, see the doctor, only problems are some work with side affects, some dont work at all, and what they will give you will take a month to know if it works and wont fix what is depressing you, but can help some of the symptoms.
David praying for you, in Jesus amazing grace and salvation John chapters 3 & 10 repented of even one lie, and let Jesus into my heart, to be my best friend, amen

talk to a counselor at your school or write them an email asking them to help you or recommend some activities. dont take medication unless it gets really bad, because the medicine alters your brains natrual chemical balance and could mess it up even more when you take it.
try exercising, reading, listening to music, hanging out with friends, learning something new, etc.
seriously look into yoga and meditation, its helped lots of people i know.

Walking and running helps..Lifting weights helps you feel good about YOURSELF...who cares what others do as long as it is not against the law, or they are not bothering you........Stay away from people who break laws...cuz they could break you, if you know what i mean...Just tell them.."I'm busy with work or school" and just stop returning their calls...Eventaully they will get the message...Another option is to go to your MD...and get some pills for depression; but do not tell anyone...keep it private...

I had depression when I was your age, but you have had so much more to deal with than I did! I'm sorry about everything that you have had to deal with.
You have taken the hardest first step - admitting you are depressed and wanting to get over it. Here is what I suggest:
First, I would go and talk to the school counselor. Many adults have had similar things happen to them and have trouble handling it all without help. Some people would have trouble with just one of the things you have had to deal with. So, I would talk to the school counselor. He or she may talk to your mom and/or stepdad, but it may be easier for you this way.
The low self esteem is a symptom of your depression. As far as your weight is concerned - some of it may be caused by the depression, but you can take action yourself and it may help you feel better. Start making better food choices. Start exercizing - studies have shown that it helps depression (mild depression).
I urge you to talk to the counselor at school or your mom and/or stepdad - whoever you think will be easier to talk to. Your fight will be easier if you have someone trained to coach you along.

13 is too young to be having feelings like this, so you need to speak to someone professionally.
Do you have any older brothers or sisters, an aunt/uncle you trust? Confide in them and ask them to take you to see a specialist.
Know this, you will get better. It might seem like a cloud is over you now, but it will pass.
Good luck :)

I think that you need to find someone to talk to that you trust, bottling things up can lead to huge outbursts which can result in some very nasty events. When I went through a tough time when my sister became ill, I went to see one of the teachers in my school to see what they could do, I eventually started having meetings with the school nurse who gave support and also kept things private. Just remember even if you feel like you are going through hell, there are always people who are worse off and also things do usually get better, give it time.
I'm sorry to hear about your father and good luck.

Studies show that physical activity (exercise) goes a long way to fighting depression. Getting up and exercising is a challenge, though, if you're depressed.
Studies also show that cutting back on sugar and white flour in a diet can help ease the symptoms of depression.
Given all that you have going on, it is not surprising that you feel as you do. You might want to visit with your counselor at school or mention it to your family doctor and get a referral for some counseling. It would be helpful to know if you are dealing with "situational depression" (a response to everything that is going on) or if you have a chemical imbalance that might respond to medication.
Talking to someone--a professional--might also be helpful. Talking is a good release and an excellent way to unburden yourself. You might try journaling, too--just writing whatever is on your mind without worrying about spelling, punctuation, grammar. Just ventilate, express yourself, get it out.
Be aware that you might get a response from the school counselor or your doctor like "oh you're not depressed!" Don't stand for it. Express yourself and insist on some help.
You need and deserve all the support you can get. Take good care of you.
