There is only one way to get rid of depression which is not of God and that is surrender yourself to the Lord through Jesus and he will make changes in your life that you would never thought of. Give Jesus a try and see what he does in your life.

First of all, see a naturopathist because they will recommend tons of ways to keep u off of depressents. And the reason why u got over it but u are STILL depressed is because antidepressents have many symptoms. Many state depression, again, as a symptom. So maybe u don't need it anymore?
Excercise a lot. Listen to calm relaxing music, just look into music therapy it seriously works. And i can't recommend this final one enough. It really pulled me through the hard times and showed me that there really is a way out...Jesus. Don't give up. u are not alone.

Your body develops a dependency on these drugs, most anti-depressants are stimulants which in case of dis continued use you will expieriecence withdrawls. If should really ask your doctor if you should dis-continue use, you can however (if you have the will power) gradually decrease the doseage until you no longer need it.
You can acerlerate your life, join a group, tell your friends (if you have any, if you dont, GET SOME) what your expieriencing, ask for support, dont be bashful when it comes to YOU. If your religious then pray. Maybe its the drugs that make you depressed anyway, some side affects from common drugs like Prozac are known to CAUSE depression.
Be all you can be and more
hope this helps

Not to be repetitive, but exercise. aside from being great for you physically it can give you a rush of endorphins. A sense of accomplishment and a more toned physique are side effects as well. try training for your first 5k or 10k race. that'll get the blood flowing. many local gyms now have running clubs to help you train, keep you accountable, and provide support. It's hard sometimes to keep yourself out of the dumps so establishing a lifelong habit of say, running for example can give you something to rely on.

I suggest 5HTP that is derived from the seed of the Griffonia flower. It is the chemical precursor of Serotonin the feel Good brain chemical. It converts quickly in to serotonin (usually in about an hour). Take it at least 1 hour before you go to bed. You can buy 5HTP at many pharmacies now. It is also available at health food stores.
I also suggest that you find a Hypnotherapist who does 5 PATH hypnosis. With 5 PATH hypnosis you will PERMANENTLY remove the source of your sadness in just 4 to 6 sessions. You can do an Internet search for a 5 PATH Hypnotherapist near you. Good Luck and Feel Better soon!

Get a hobby and stick with it. Go out with friends and do things that you thought you'd never be able to do. Travel or visit places close by that you have never been to. Just get out and get moving.

Excercise is an excellent thing to do. Don't be so afraid of anti depressants, they are not all like Valium..Prozac is a very good short term 1-2 years depending.. Could really help you. I would speak to your doctor..Failing that, try excercising.

Endorphins help fight depression whether taken in a medication or produced by your own body. You release endorphins when you exercise or have sex both good natural ways to balance depression. I am a layperson and my advice is just what I think personally. Please do not take this advice without seeking professional assistance.

Exercize probably has the most immediate positive effects for most people. You can also do things that improve your vision of yourself such as start working with charities, donating, mentoring, etc.
I'm sorry about your father - I lost mine when I was 14 - and you're right - it is devastating. That is the sort of event that brings a kid into the real world of death. I think you and I would both agree that it is better to come to the full realization that people die slowly than to face it that young. You have lost your innocence.
It might help to think of it as coming upon wisdom earlier than others - your feeling of depression now is one that we all ultimately come to. Its a matter of what ELSE we do. That is - what makes life worth living if everyone we know and care about is eventually going to leave us?
The answer is unlikely to be exactly the same for any of us, but the sooner you really figure out what you enjoy out of life, the faster you can start living it and stop just surviving it.

There are many things you can do to improve the quality of your life, I have never tried it but intend to get involved with in the next week, I have heard yoga works wonders, Really just taking care of yourself, excersize, reading positive and uplifting books has always worked wonders for me. Reasearch things that make you feel good, Stay away from the news while it is nice to be informed you do not have to be absorbed. Just focus on things that make you feel good and then watch as they keep showing up over and over again!! =)
GOOD LUCK!!!!!

St. John's Wort (a vitamin) has been used to treat depression. Cognitive behavioral therapy and meditation have also proven effective. 16 years ago is a long time. I would look for current triggers.

My favourite two ways:
a) Hang out with my funniest friends, the one who can make me cry from laughing so hard
b) do my most favourite hobbies
-paintballing
-cruising
-drifiting
-online gaming
those activities take my mind of all my stresses and depressions. The hardest part is getting motivated to do those activities but once I manage to do them I feel better

Diet and exercise have proven links to depression.
Eating high fat or high sugar foods can literally depress your mood. There are many mood altering foods such as chocolate, strawberries and blueberries (all of those and more are known to boost levels of 'happy' chemicals in your brain)
Exercise also helps in many ways. It also helps your body secrete 'happy' chemicals but it does a lot more than that. Among other benefits you will have more energy and an increased sense of self-esteem. (how can that hurt?)
Staying busy, taking on a hobby or even doing volunteer work is also good. There is something about being occupied that helps with depression and if that something involves helping others, it almost always helps you too.
