Well, Take rest both your body and mind. For your body, close your eyes , don't move and stay at ease position like , siting in arm chair or lie down in your bed.
For your mind..try not to think anything..Know something from your body,( such as moving your womb and chest up and down. Seeing some bright light in your eyes when you are closed. Or if you touch your 2 hands, you will feel a little warm. Or even your breathing.
After 20 minutes to 45 minutes,endophine from your body will secrete. it's a natural pain killer from your body.
But i think... to take rest your mind, need practise. YOu cannot get right away.

I prefer a cold beer and sitting on my patio and I use a relaxation technique I learned years ago... Sit with your feet flat on the floor with your arms relaxed at your sides. Start from your toes and mentally continue up your body telling yourself my toes are relaxed and free of weight, my feet are relaxed and free of pressure and shoes....just keep going until you get to the top of your head...if you make it that far. It always helps me, because you can't really focus on anything else while doing this. Try it, it can't hurt.

My personal method is not exactly to 'empty' my brain but to use it for something different in a way to clear all the issues currently residing there. HUH? Let me explain.
I pick up the newpaper and do the crossword puzzle, the word jumbo, and/or the sudoku. Sure it requires more brain power. But the thinking (especially the crossword) clears away the pressures and anxieties I have built up over the course of the day. Once the puzzle is done, I feel much more relaxed.
