Should i burn it?
i have this journal for 2 years now and i just finished it last year.
my problem is this, there are a lot of memories in it that i do not want to remember, i feel the pain and the past keeps resounding in my mind whenever i read it.
i figured that if i burn the book, it will help me move on with my life. althought there are good memos. in it, i still feel compel to burn it.
please tell me the best thing to do.
keep it in a storage place or get rid of it.
i really need your help.

It's okay to journal, but stop dwelling on the past. Put them up and leave them alone. If you can't leave them alone, I'd see a shrink to help you with your compulsion.

Funny as it may sound, you can do both.
Keep the good memos and burn the rest. Then for good measure, gather up the ash and flush it down the loo. You'll feel better, trust me. Keeping painful memories does no one no good and I feel somewhere deep inside you DO want to move on with your life. So DO IT !

Why not hold on to it for a month or two (maybe more) then see how you feel about it. And at that time, if you still think that burning it will help you to move on, then by all means you should burn it.

i think that you should really decide if these are memories that you definately do not want to remember. if the memories are too painful, then i really think you should burn it. my therapist actually suggested this to me in a similar situation. if these are memories that you are sure you do not want to revisit, then you should burn it. it will give you a great feeling to release the painful memories and put them behind you. hope you make the right choice!

i cant see how your finished with it, your life is not over?how about starting volume 2. the thing about journaling is,?you write feelings and stuff down, especially when stuff is going wrong?you need to keep that part of your life as a reminder not to go back to those ways, things or people, learn from-your journaling don't throw it away and forget what you've learned?you don't need to read it everyday, just keep it, in case you ever need to laugh or cry about your life, sometimes looking back, you can see how stupid you were and sometimes it an be good for a laugh????don't burn it keep it as a tool, in-case you ever-back slide?

By all means get rid of the book and together with all the unpleasant memories of the past..!!

Replace all this with healthier thoughts and more positive remembrances, happy moments, your daily achievements (any kind, even to cook well a meal for example... not all of us can achieve that!!), be patient with yourself, above all...Take it easy and open your eyes to small things that give us satisfaction and happy feelings

Burning it might serve as a catharsis, liberating you of
distasteful memories. Journals, however, a highly personal.
So personal they are almost a part of the journalist.
Ultimately it is your decision. Consider the pros and cons.
Pros say you keep it. Cons say you burn it. You choose.

Keep it for exactly one year, having put it well out of the way. In a year, take it out and look at it. If you feel neutrally or positively about it, then keep it, but if it still gives you pain. shred the pages, a few at a time. With the shredding you will shred a little of your pain.

don't burn it. I have tons of embarrasing journals of me saying disgusting things from when i was like 10. but i kept them hidden away until we moved out and then i never looked at them until years later. now im 18 and i read them and just laugh. so dont burn em cuz ur gonna laugh in a few years down the road.

The same thing happened to me and i was tired of dwelling on the past also! MOVE ON WITH YOUR LIFE i took out all the good pages of my diary that made me happy and put them on one of those picture things and hung it on my wall and then threw the bad memories away. It was a great feeling when that trash truck came and carried those memories away, trust me!

Burning the journal will not erase your past. I think you have some things that you need to deal with and must face them head on. To move on with your life you must first come to terms and make peace with your past. That requires a lot of work and maybe even some therapy. It is hard but well worth it. Remember, you can burn the book and do nothing else and that to me will just burn a good future as well.

What was the purpose of writing the journal? If you were using the journal to track your day-to-day activities to see how you have changed and progressed, than it would seem the journal has served it's purpose. My recommendation would be to first document the progress you made over the time covered by the journal, save the entries you would like to keep, and destroy the rest. If the fact the journal still exists causes you any worry at all, why hassle with it?
Think of it like this - each entry in the journal is a picture of a step on your journey from start to finish. A single step isn't as important as the whole journey, so keep the steps you want, document the progress you made and let go of the rest.

I would wrap it really tight in lots of layers of plastic and bury it in a place where it can be found years later. Years later I would dig it up again and read it again. If you have moved on, than the memories are at least less painfull and migth even be uplifitng as you know you have moved on. If you than still feel like burning it than go ahead and burn it. Otherwise keep it as refound treasure.

i don't think you should burn it. it is part of your life, and you have to take the good with the bad. if your not in a place to remember all the stuff right now, maybe years down the road it won't bother you as much. if i were you i'd keep it somewhere, so when your ready, it will be there. good luck.

All memories, good or bad, are memories. What ever happened is part of your life and I'm sure it has become a part of the person you are now, whether you like it or not. I'd keep it, but just go with your instincts.

Keep It!! Learn from it, and see how much you have grown - in one - two- five years now! Maybe, you will see some things that were helpful and you might even be able to help others with what thewy may be going through. We all have a past that we want to forget, but, if we are able to learn from it, then I think that we have accomplished something from it. I am mentally ill, and I have had a head injury. I have not lost any important memories, but, I am able to learn from the past, and that is what one should do.

I wouldn't burn it, if I were you I would reap out the pages that make me feel bad. Sometimes we don't need to remember things that hurt us in the past, the only thing you need to remember from those moments is the lesson learned from that incident.

I would keep it. I have some pretty embarrasing things in my journals but I just hide them and don't read them. Or maybe you could copy some entrees that you like from the journal and write them in a different one and just burn the journal afterwards, when you've taken all you want to remember of it out??

You wrote it for a reason. Keep it as a reminder of where you came from and what you have over-come. You can use it as inspiration of your inner power. It can be used how you decide to use it.

I say keep it.

You don't have to read it because you already know what you wrote in it. Burning it won't make you forget, only time. Juat put it away for now where no one else can find it. Someday you might need it for something. I keep my diary for when I have kids i never forget what is like to go through what they might go through, but since I still remember I don't read it.
